There are so many things so many of us take for granted, that we don't spare any thought about how fortunate and lucky we are. The things we don't value at all may mean the world for someone else. Honestly, if the pandemic has taught us something, it's to never take anything for granted, be it friends, relationships, or things, given how easy it was for us to lose everything in the blink of an eye. Life's crisis can surely be a great teacher.

With that being said, an unpredictable year is now coming to an end, and the entire world is gearing up to welcome 2022, hoping it will be filled with love and laughter instead of pain and despair. So, why don't we take a look at some of the things we ought to be grateful for?

1. Friends that make you laugh till your belly aches

We all need a shoulder to lean on when the going gets tough. A friend is someone who is our family by choice because we can trust them to be there for us through thick and thin, and for making sure that we always have a smile replace our frown.

2. Family that will love you through thick and thin

Your relatives, cousins, and parents are wired to love you despite your flaws. They will never let go of you, even when you feel as though the entire world has abandoned you. When all else fails, there's family.

3. Pets that miraculously make your sorrow disappear

Honestly, only pets make you experience love like no other. They shower you with kindness unconditionally, without expecting anything in return. And that, in itself, is a blessing, because no human can ever love you as much as your pet can.

4. Food that fills up your belly

There are so many people all over the world who go to bed hungry, and to have food to eat whenever we feel like it is a privilege in itself. If you have a plate of food in front of you or have the privilege of getting yourself whatever you feel like eating, please consider yourself lucky.

5. A place to call home

Again, not everyone knows what it means to call a place home. So many people live in shelters, barely making ends meet, and that's not a good feeling. So, if you have a place to go to at the end of a long, tiring day, where you can simply be yourself, then you're lucky.

6. Clothes that keep us comfortable

When it's warm, we slip into something comfortable, and when it's cold we have some layers to add, so we can stay warm. But you know what, there are so many people who struggle to keep warm during the winters, especially now. If you can, lend your old clothes to someone who really needs it.

7. An opportunity to learn something new

Not everyone has the luxury of spending their money on things that aren't materialistic, like education, because they have so many responsibilities they need to tend to. Consider yourself lucky if you don't have responsibilities weighing you down.

8. For all the good firsts in life

There's always a first time for everything, and it can be good or bad. But, if it's your first time getting a promotion or your first time finding love, then that really is something to be grateful for, isn't it?

9. Time to do whatever you want

Time is precious and people make the most of the 24 hours a day has to offer, simply to make ends meet. Make the most of the time you have, while being grateful about it.

10. Just being alive

If there's one thing the past couple of years have taught us, it's the fact that life is really fragile. Stop taking people and your own life for granted, and just be grateful to be alive, because life has plenty of things in store for you.
