A 13-year-old girl who took her parent's car for a drive caused a four-car crash that took place on August 26th, 2022 in Colorado.
Initial investigation by the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) found that the underage driver caused the accident in eastern Boulder County, which also involved a school bus, after taking her parents' Chevy Suburban without their knowledge, according to CBS News. The girl first hit two other vehicles before crashing into the bus, said CSP Master Trooper Gary Cutler, according to 9News.

There was a student on the bus, along with the driver, who got away uninjured. The bus driver had just started their route and after the accident, another bus was dispatched to complete it. Unfortunately, all four vehicles were heavily damaged in the accident.

The 13-year-old driver was cited and released to her parents. However, she isn't expected to be jailed. According to the CDC, "Motor vehicle crashes are the second leading cause of death for U.S. teens." In 2019, there were about 2,400 teen fatalities in the US, between the ages of 13 to 19. About 258,000 people received treatment in emergency rooms for injuries sustained in car accidents. This means that each day, around seven teenagers die in car accidents, and hundreds more suffered injuries due to reckless driving.
A further $4.8 billion was spent on medical expenses and lost wages as a result of teen drivers between the ages of 15 and 19 dying in crashes in 2018. People were completely taken aback by the incident and left comments on social media.
"So no juvenile home or anything? She gets to go back home and brag to all her friends what she has done. That's pitiful," wrote one user. "The underage driver should get license revoked for an undetermined length of time. Parents to pay all liability," added another.
"If that had been my kid, she would have spent the in jail at my request. She stole. Stole something expensive. And caused a lot of damage. She's lucky she didn't kill anyone," added a third person. "Oooo that’s big trouble! I never did anything as naughty as a kid," shared another user.
Honestly, it is sheer luck that no one was hurt.
