"Mum was such a caring person, she spent most of her life looking after other people and spending time with her family. She was such a strong and positive person to be around, even after she was diagnosed, she was determined to face the cancer head-on," said Billy.
Nothing can be more heart-wrenching for a teenager to see a parent die of an illness. A 14-year-old boy had to bid farewell to his sick mother without being able to sit by her side as she took her last breaths. Billy's mom was slowly losing her battle with cancer, but before she passed, he made sure to do something extremely special for his beloved mother.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Jane Devine was hospitalised. Her son, Billy Devine, stood outside his mother's hospice window and singing her favourite song, Shallow, by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Unfortunately, he lost his mother just three days later, reports BBC.
The restrictions bought into place by the pandemic stopped him from being close to his mother. However, he could not stop himself from performing to make his mother feel better. He said that his mother's eyes "lit up" when he began singing. He added that singing to his mother for what he knew would be the final time was a bittersweet moment. "It was a mixed emotion because I was excited that she could hear me sing but sad because it was for the last time," he said.

Now that his mother is no longer by his side, the one memory he holds rather close to his heart is that of his mother's face, smiling at him from the hospital window. "I’ll never forget the look on my mum’s face as she watched from the window of her room. Just remembering it now gives me goosebumps," said Billy, per Mirror Online.
The young boy cherished the kind of woman his mother was. "Mum was such a caring person, she spent most of her life looking after other people and spending time with her family. She was such a strong and positive person to be around, even after she was diagnosed, she was determined to face the cancer head-on," said Billy.
When Billy's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, they were informed that the condition was terminal. So, Billy knew his mother wasn't going to make it, though it was hard for him to accept it. The brave boy even thanked the hospice for taking care of his mother during her last days. He said, "That’s when she went to Ashgate Hospicecare and I can honestly say that the care she received was amazing, it is a very welcoming and comforting place, not just for mum but for the whole family."
Although only 14 years old, the child is wiser beyond his age, and hopefully, he finds the strength to reach great heights, keeping his mother in his memory and close to his heart forever.
