While on spring break in Mexico, a college student from New Jersey fell off a hotel balcony on the third floor and passed away. Henry Meacock, 19, an undergraduate student at Ohio State University, was helping out another hotel guest when he fell through a plexiglass platform, plunging to his death.
At the hotel, a girl in a room above his dropped her ID and it landed on the plexiglass between the balconies. He tried to get it for her, stepped on the plexiglass and it gave way and he fell, per testimonies from his friends, NYPost reported.

Meacock was pursuing a degree in finance, according to an Ohio State spokesperson in a statement received by PEOPLE. "The Ohio State community has suffered a tragic loss, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Henry Meacock," the spokesperson said.
The family, in a moving obituary, wrote that Henry was "the most genuine soul." According to his obituary, Meacock was born in England and relocated to the United States when he was three years old. The obituary went on to remember his "infectious laugh" which will live on in their memory. "He had a smile that would light up the room like no other. He was a boy of a million different facial expressions and could mimic anything or anyone," the obituary continued.

"He oozed kindness wherever he went and never judged others or tried to change anyone's mind but at the same time held on to his beliefs," it further added. "He was a gentleman to his very core and as genuine a person you could ever wish to meet."
Meacock earlier attended Westfield High School in New Jersey. "We are truly heartbroken at the passing of Henry Meacock, a WHS Varsity Golf Alumni," the school golf team wrote on Twitter on March 20. "Henry was such an easy-going and positive young man who was always smiling and loved to play golf."
Threes Above High, a bar near Ohio State, also stated that it will hold a fundraiser Monday, March 27, night to support Meacock's family in the aftermath of his death, with 100% of the proceeds going to the young man's loved ones. "We can’t say we knew Henry Meacock, but he’s a buckeye, therefore one of us. We know when tough things happen, that’s when this community comes together, shows up, and rallies together," the bar wrote on Facebook.
"If people don’t believe they can make a difference with small gestures, this last-minute event should be a perfect example that people are genuinely kind and want to help, so don’t be afraid to go change the world little by little in your own way," another post by the bar added.
