The police department shared, "We remained optimistic and it paid off!"
Two Ohio women, who went missing while on a holiday in New Mexico, have been found safe to the joy of their families. Loved ones had been hoping for their "safe return."
Robyn Renee Bodine, 46, and Tracie Shoe, 52, were discovered "in an extremely remote area" of Catron County on Thursday, March 30, at 1:00 p.m. local time, according to Ohio's Brookville Police Department. In a press statement, the police department declared, "We remained optimistic and it paid off!"
They will "be reunited with their families soon," they stated in a second statement.
The joyful report came two days after the friends went missing while on holiday at the Riverbend Hot Spring in New Mexico, per PEOPLE. Family members claimed that neither woman had "been in contact with anyone in the last 24 hours" in a family note shared by the Truth or Consequences Police Department on Wednesday.
"Police everywhere have been contacted, airports, records searched. Nothing is giving us any help," Bodine's daughter, Taylor Moberly, wrote in the message. "We have exhausted all efforts and I'm just hoping to post this and maybe it reaches somewhere beneficial. Please, please, please keep my family in your prayers."
The two Brookville-based women have known each other for a long time, according to Moberly, who spoke to the CBS station WHIO-TV. She told the publication that her mother wanted to visit Riverbend Hot Springs for her birthday, which was on March 29, although she didn't give her many specifics about the journey.
The friends left from Ohio on Saturday, March 25, Moberly shared and landed at the hot springs on Monday. Although specifics about what they did after leaving the airport on Tuesday morning are unknown. A friend of Shoe, Jennifer Lightcap, told WHIO-TV that she believed they intended to go hiking before flying.
Lightcap went on to say that calls to both women was going straight to voicemail, adding, "We're not sure if a battery has gone dead or what has happened." The friend continued, "But they are not responding, not answering on social media."
The Brookville Police Department opened an investigation on March 29 after they spoke with family members, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the Truth or Consequence Police Department as well the Federal Bureau of Investigation. "We ask that you keep Robyn, Tracie, and their families in your thoughts and prayers and remain optimistic for their safe return to our community," they wrote in a statement.
