A family is mourning the loss of a young woman to a brutal murder. Anggy Diaz, the 21-year-old victim, was allegedly murdered by her husband of three months. Diaz's dismembered body was discovered by her in-laws, and authorities in a Texas town are currently investigating the matter. The victim's husband admitted to killing her to authorities when questioned, per PEOPLE.
The local police department was informed of "a possible deceased person" at about 4:18 p.m. local time on Wednesday, Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry said in a news briefing on Thursday. The body of the 21-year-old was then discovered in a building where the couple lived that was behind the in-laws' house. She had reportedly been beheaded.
A GoFundMe set up by the victim's family is looking to raise funds for the funeral expenses of the young girl. It was started on Thursday, and as of today, it has raised about $1,000 of its $12,000 target. "A parent's worst nightmare. Anggy Diaz 21 years old daughter, sister, niece, and a friend," the campaign read. "Our family is shattered by the loss of such a young life." The young Diaz is being remembered as "the light to our family and community." She is described as a person "always with a smile", and had a "cheerful personality." The GoFundMe continues, "The absence of her from our lives will be felt forever."
Idis Diaz, Diaz's aunt, posted numerous memorials to her deceased niece on Facebook. In one of her posts, she described Anggy as "Totally loved by her family. And an incredible energy. A joy to be alive". Idis wrote, "That day I came tired from work and I still made the house happy," along with a goofy video with Anggy singing with a child.
Guidry did not name the suspect during the news conference, but the sheriff's office identified him as Jared James Discus, 21, according to several outlets. At the news conference, Guidry described the "gruesome scene," saying that when authorities arrived, they found "a portion of a body, dismembered, and a residence that was covered in blood." Guidry said, describing the experience of seeing the scene for the first time, "The best you can say is that's the world we live in today. It's a gruesome scene. And both sides of these families are gonna be altered by it, either way, suspect and the victim's."
Discus was at the house when the police showed up, and was detained there until the other family members were escorted to the station to talk with the officers. Authorities shared that they have previously been called to the home, however, "nothing to this effect and to this level of violence." He shared that Anggy, who worked as counter help in a nearby business, and the suspect lived together behind a home that belonged to the suspect's parents.
