A 5-year-old girl was shot dead at a Houston intersection in a drive-by shooting and now officials are searching for the alleged gunmen responsible.
The shooting took place on July 3, 2022, at about 1 am, according to the Houston Police Department, per PEOPLE. At a news conference, Assistant Chief Chandra Hatcher said that the little girl's mom was driving when another car pulled up next to them at a stop sign.
The suspect's vehicle fired multiple shots at the car, injuring the girl and her 8-year-old brother, who were both seated in the backseat. Almost immediately, the mom drove the car to the nearest hospital, where she was informed that her daughter was brought dead.
The mom identified her daughter, the victim, as Khamaya Dior Donelson, per ABC13. Khamaya's brother was reportedly shot in the arm, too, but his injuries are not too grave and he is expected to survive the ordeal.
A GoFundMe set up to raise funds for the little girl's funeral revealed that the incident took place while the family was on their way back home.
