Hana Sofia Lopes had to attend a highly prestigious event when her luggage containing all her necessary items was lost. The Luxembourg-born actor of Portuguese descent was stopping off in New York City for a few days in October 2022 and then heading to Montreal in Canada where the event would be held. Days passed by when she was visiting her friends in NYC but the luggage never arrived.

The actress in her 30s spent a week calling the airline during her brief stay but things began to look bleak. "Here I am in New York, with no clothes other than those I was wearing during the flight. No shoes. No brush for my hair. No makeup. No socks. Nothing. Just me and my handbag," she told CNN Travel. After buying a last-minute dress in New York, finally, she got to Montreal and decided to file a complaint. She headed straight to the airline information desk after she landed to raise her luggage complaint in person. "I was really thinking to myself, 'You know, I'm going to explode,'" she recalled. "But on the other hand, I'm a yogi too, so I also believe in karma." And it looked like it was that philosophy that was about to change things around in the most uplifting way.

"I just start by saying, 'Listen, what I'm about to say is nothing personal. It's really just against your company, against the company you're working for,'" recalled Hana Sofia who was moved to tears at the time due to her frustration. Lopes explained that "I'm here to shoot a movie, and tomorrow, there is a reception with the prime minister of Luxembourg, which is my home country. I don't even have makeup to put on my face. I don't even have face cream. I have nothing."

The worker, Azalia Claudine Becerril Angulo, understood the traveler's frustration. "She was really sad, angry also, and I understood why," she told CNN, adding that she found Lopes’ vulnerability refreshing. "I wanted to help her. Normally, people are rude and they're very aggressive. She was different." As luck turned out, Angulo was a professional makeup artist and had an idea. "If you want, I can come to your hotel in the afternoon and do your hair and makeup so that you can attend your reception," she told the actress. "If I was in your place, I would be also freaking out. So I really want to do it for free."

Lopes agreed and as the two got to work at the hotel, they chatted about their lives. The connection was instant. "It didn't feel like I was just meeting somebody for the first time. It felt like I was meeting up with an old friend, which is crazy, because I just met her the day before, but we were talking a lot,” Lopes shared. The same day Lopes was notified that her luggage was on its way to Montreal. Maybe it was karma or maybe it was just a coincidence, but it looked like everything worked out in the end in the most special way. "She's not only a great human, but she's also really good at her job because she managed to find my luggage," shared Lopes. Added Angulo, "She has a friend in Montreal. Anything that she needs, I'm going to be there."
