The star of "The Notebook" movie has come a long way since she broke into the Hollywood scene.
Rachel Mcadams, the Mean Girls star, who had kept her pregnancy under wraps, opened up about motherhood seven months after she gave birth in April 2018 and she thinks it changed her life for the better. The insights she had to share will probably have all moms nodding along.
“It’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me, hands down,” the Notebook star, 40, told The Sunday Times. “[People say] your life is not your own anymore, but I had 39 years of me, I was sick of me, I was so happy to put the focus on some other person," she told the British newspaper.
The Canadian actress made a name for herself in Hollywood when she starred in the 2004 high school drama Mean Girls. Since then, she has had a career that got her critical acclaim along with fame. Some of her most noteworthy performances have been in the films The Notebook, Spotlight, and The Time Traveler's Wife. She has had a long career and dated some of the most promising actors along the way. However, she has settled down with her writer boyfriend Jamie Linden since 2016.
“I waited a long time [for motherhood]. It’s just how it happened. And I didn’t want to do it before it was the right time," the Oscar-nominee told the newspaper, according to Us Weekly. While many women get judged for choosing to have a baby later in life after they have attained their professional dreams, it is good to know that some celebrities are opening up about the topic. It can encourage other women, who have chosen this path, to feel more accepted.
As a new mom, she was going through the same challenges as any other, including finding the time to get dressed. However, she is a positive person who likes to focus on the good bits.
"I have clothes on and that’s a good thing. I don’t even know what I’m wearing today. The shoes are held together with glue. Isn’t that sad? I need to get a life," said the Spotlight star. “But I’m having more fun being a mum than I’ve ever had. Everything about it is interesting and exciting and inspiring to me. Even the tough days — there’s something delightful about them.”
Like many others in the industry, including Penelope Cruz, this mama wants to keep her son, whose name she did not reveal, out of the public eye. “I want to keep his life private, even if mine isn’t,” she told the outlet.
The Sherlock Holmes actress thinks that becoming a mom has given her more clarity. "You see everything through a particular lens: very sensitive, more open. It’s like being on an (airplane) all the time," she added.
Like any other mom, she has strict rules about raising her child. While her son is young, she has already set up rules around the house, reports Today. This new mommy is also open to having more children, according to USA Today. “I think there is definitely room for more,” she said.
