The family, who received the diagnosis in January, is "very hopeful" that the 28-year-old will survive the illness.
Shortly after her sister Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell's news of stage 4 adrenal cancer became public, Alana 'Honey Boo Boo' Thompson opened up about her family. "This is what I mean when I say you never truly know what somebody is going through at home. No matter how famous they are. Yes, I'm very famous, but normal s*** happens to me and my family and y'all need to realize that ASAP," the 17-year-old wrote in an Instagram Story alongside a screenshot of an article on TMZ.
The family, who received the diagnosis in January, is "very hopeful" that the 28-year-old will survive the illness, a source told TMZ.
The source added that after Anna complained of having abdominal pains, doctors ran a number of tests and found that she had cancer in her liver, kidney, and lung. Before making any further choices, doctors are reportedly waiting to see how she responds to the first round of chemotherapy she received last month.
Anna and her teen sibling made an appearance on the TLC series Toddlers & Tiaras, alongside their mother, Mama June Shannon, 43. For the 2012 spinoff, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, they were joined by their siblings Jessica "Chubbs" Shannon, 26, and Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird, 23, per PEOPLE.
She later welcomed her daughter Kaitlyn Elizabeth in 2012. Two years later, in 2014, Anna wed her longtime love, Michael Cardwell. Prior to divorcing in 2017, the couple welcomed a girl named Kylee Madison in 2015.
In the midst of the ambiguity, Anna's family has stepped up, and TMZ was informed by a source that they have worked together to help care for Anna and her two children, 10-year-old Kaitlyn and 7-year-old Kylee. Additionally, her partner Eldridge has supported her throughout the frightening prognosis.
Anna went Instagram official with her current partner Eldridge Toney after sharing a video of the two of them together in 2019, captioning it, "Just what we do before bed hahaha @eldridgetoney." Later Eldridge also made it official that they were dating in May 2020 after he posted a picture of her on the beach with the message, "I can't wait for another beach trip with you @annamarie35."
She returned to Instagram just a few days before the news of her medical diagnosis emerged, sharing her first photo since July 2022. "Well I ain't posted here in a while," wrote Anna. "Your girl is back sorry for the photo dump that's going to happen hahah I love y'all and I hope y'all hope y'all are having a good week."
