Many names surfaced after baby Archie's christening but Harry and Meghan chose what's plausibly best for their little prince.
Baby Archie's christening in July 2019 was a heavily guarded affair with only close friends and family members in attendance. It was neither covered by any media outlet nor was any information made public. After the ceremony, many names surfaced as baby Archie's godparents but none turned out to be true. In fact, some time ago it was also reported that Isabel May, Meghan's friend has been chosen as Archie's godmother.
However, if a recent report of The Times is to be believed, Archie's godparents are two such people who had not only mentored Harry and Prince William when they were little but also supported them in the wake of Princess Diana's demise.
Tiggy Pettifer, Harry's and William's former nanny, and Mark Dyer, his minder, were asked by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to be their newborn's godparents ahead of his christening last July, reports Mail Online. Mrs. Pettifer and Mr. Dyer reportedly join Harry's friend Charlie van Straubenzee as the only known godparents of Archie.
A source told The Sunday Times, that this decision of Harry's is a move to have such people around his son who have rallied behind him in tough times. This is also proof of his inclination and reverence towards family values.
Not just that, picking two unknown figures over a pool of global celebrities like Serena Williams and Misha Noonoo reaffirms the fact that, like his mother, Harry wants to ensure a normal upbringing for his son. In fact, keeping the names of Archie's godparents a secret could also be an extension of this decision of theirs.
Having said that, now that the couple is moving to Canada post their exit from the royal family, Archie will not be able to spend as much time with his godparents as his father did. According to Mail Online, Dyer, despite his 20-year age gap with Harry has forged a strong friendship with him and has also grown to be his "second father."
That Harry would want to have his mentors around him should not be surprising because, in addition to everything, he is known to carry forward his mother Lady Di's legacy and a lot of his decisions and personality traits have stark similarities with that of his mother's.
Be it stepping down as a senior royal or naming his own mentors his son's godparents, one thing is for sure that Diana's younger son is a father first. He has been fiercely protective of his family and is taking his role as a father very seriously so he could ensure a safe environment for both his wife and son.
We wish more power to him and his family!
