The 57-year-old actress stated that she and Morgan keep happy by having their own area. "We do have time apart and I think that [helps], and actually if you can have separate bedrooms, I think that's a really good thing too," Belinda remarked on Loose Women. "Everybody needs their own space and he needs his space and I need my space and the nature of my work, I have to travel, he does too so there’s time apart but I think that that’s good not to be together 24/7." Belinda also informed panelists Coleen Nolan, Anita Dobson, Jamelia, and Janet Street Porter that meeting politician and film producer Morgan wasn't love at first sight. "We met at a party about 32 years ago, and he wasn't very nice to me. I was like ‘no one talks to me like that’," she revealed. "Of course that was the way to get me, not being nice to me." She continued: "I ran into him a couple of days later, he asked me out, we went out and I moved in the next day." She also said that she is a little hard to live with: ‘I think yes, I’m not the easiest person in the world but neither is he… I think my middle name is “Contrary” so I’m just contrary by nature.’

The actress revealed Morgan is her best friend. She said, "We went on a date 30 years ago and I moved in the next day. Everyone thought we were crazy, but we’ve been together ever since." Belinda and Morgan married in 1986, and they have a 22-year-old son called James. James was born in 1992, during the Los Angeles riots. One of the reasons they decided to go to France was because they were afraid of raising their kid in such a divided and unfriendly atmosphere in the city at the time.

As per Today, Belinda said, "We went to a large gala dinner in a country club in Los Angeles." 'Oh my God, is this where it all ends?' I wondered as I glanced about at all the tables. At a country club in Los Angeles? 'No, thank you.' We'd always wanted to live in the south of France. We'd devoured Peter Mayle's works, including A Year in Provence. My kid was born on the first day of the Los Angeles riots in 1992, so we knew we had to leave. And she claims that after living in France, they attempted to return to the United States but quickly realized they couldn't adjust. My son had departed to return to Los Angeles, so my husband and I decided it was time for us to return to America as well. We stayed for five years but couldn't acclimatize. 'Just come and check things out,' remarked a buddy who lived in Thailand. We visited Bangkok and fell in love with it. And, having struggled with alcohol and drug addiction in the past, Belinda feels she would have killed someone or been imprisoned if she hadn't become clean. The Go-Go's singer said, "In my early days of sobriety, my sponsor made me make a list of the 20 ways I had been protected during my crazy years and I really should have been in prison at the very least! Or in an asylum, or I'd have killed somebody. I'm lucky to be here."

Belinda Carlisle and Morgan Mason's marriage began unconventionally, and it has required some unconventional tactics to keep it running for over four decades. Carlisle mentioned that when she met her future husband at a party in 1983, he was unpleasant to her, which piqued her interest. They ran into each other again a few days later, and this time he was much more polite, inviting her out on a date. Carlisle moved in with Mason the next day, so their day or night out must have been the nicest date ever. People believed they were insane, yet the pair is still alive and well after 39 years.
