Blake Shelton & Gwen Stefani announced their engagement on October 27, 2020.
Wedding bells are ringing for Blake Shelton and the love of his life, Gwen Stefani. The couple can't wait to tie the knot this summer in front of their dear family and friends. As per sources, the couple delayed their wedding plans due to the pandemic as they wanted to unite in the presence of their loved ones.
"Ever since they got engaged, they have both been adamant that no wedding will happen until it's safe for family and friends to attend. Gwen expressed early on that she really wanted a summer wedding," said a source, according to People. The insider added, "She was upset earlier this year when it seemed to be no end in sight for the pandemic. She slowly started planning the wedding this spring though."
Now that everything seems to head to normalcy, the couple is thrilled. "They are both ecstatic that it can finally happen. They are getting married this summer. Gwen's boys will be very involved. Blake is a great extra dad and very close with the boys." said the source.
Those close to the couple revealed that Stefani's sons—15-year-old Kingston, 12-year-old Zuma, and 7-year-old Apollo—will play a major role in the couple's wedding ceremony. "Gwen's sons are just really solid, sweet kids, and they're so excited for Blake and Gwen to get married. They can't wait to stand by their sides," said a friend of the couple's, according to People.
Stefani has always put her children first. "From the beginning, Gwen made it clear to Blake that her boys were No. 1 in her life, and Blake always respected this," a source said. Another friend of Stefani credited Shelton for being an understanding partner. "He never wanted to overstep and made sure everyone was comfortable with his role in her sons' lives," said the friend.
Meanwhile, the arrangements of the wedding are yet to be known. However, last month, Shelton joked about what his wedding would look like if he organized it. "If I was picking our meal, it would just literally be everything fried. French fries, chicken tenders, you know, all of that stuff. I think [Gwen] knows that it would be a pretty classless wedding if I was in control," according to USA Today.
He also confirmed that the planning was spearheaded by his soon-to-be wife. "I want her to do all of that stuff and handle it because it's going to be great. She's in the middle of planning the thing, and she's always so mindful … of me," he said.
Prior to the wedding, Stefani already celebrated a bridal shower with her dear ones, according to People. The 51-year-old took to Instagram to talk about the surprise shower. She told her fans that she was kidnapped for the shower. In a selfie video, the singer gleefully stated, "I'm getting married!"
The couple announced their engagement through Instagram on October 27, 2020, after befriending each other in 2014 while working together for The Voice. Soon, their friendship developed into a relationship.
"At first they were bonding over their splits and finding light in one another, but they quickly realized they have so much more in common than just going through heartbreak. They're both incredibly close to their families and their lives are rooted deeply in their faith. He just fit so seamlessly into her life, and vice versa," said a source.
Best wishes to the couple!
