Listening to someone you deeply love profess their commitment to you is one of the most wonderful things to hear. Mississippi Medical Centre patient Andrea Diaz was in for a special day not just because she was about to hear properly for the first time but also because her boyfriend, Kevin Peakman, was going to secretly propose! Audiologist Dr. Vicki Gonzales and Diaz's mother captured the emotional moment on camera.

Peakman wanted that the first thing Diaz hears was asking her to marry him. Dr. Gonzales can be seen turning on Diaz's implant for the first time in the short video. Cochlear implants are electronic devices that replace the function of a damaged inner ear and help to provide a sense of sound. The patient almost instantly is overcome with emotion and bursts into tears. She describes the new sensation as "noisy" and "sounds funny", and while she's laughing and crying at the same time she hears her mother tell her she loves her. If that weren't enough to make her emotional Peakman then got down on one knee and asked her a very important question. "I love you so much and you're my best friend, baby," he can be heard saying. "I wanted to make the first thing you hear me asking you to marry me."

"Yes," Diaz replied. "I like the ring. I can hear your voice! There's so much going on!" she said before adding, "I'm very happy. It worked!"

According to The Independent, the University of Mississippi Medical Center, which put in the implant, shared the video online with the caption, "After receiving a cochlear implant, patients of UMMC ENT and Communicative Sciences audiologist Dr. Vicki Gonzalez are sometimes overcome with emotions when the device is turned on and the patient can gain or regain hearing. Andrea Diaz is one such example. She recently received an implant and became very emotional when the new device was activated, under the watchful eye of her mother and Kevin Peakman, her boyfriend. However, the day’s life-changing moments didn’t end there." Netizens shared their support for the soon-to-be-married couple's sweet moment. In the comments, one person wrote, "Two of the best things that happened to this girl in one day." Another added, "Well, not asking her in the middle of a crowd or in some sort of completely stupid and pressure-inducing, stressful situation. I think this is actually a very good way of proposing!" A third said, "Absolutely sweet and nice. Hope they got a marvelous married life."
