Sometimes, people become each other's miracles without even trying. God might have plans for us that we are unaware of but it usually turns out well, in the end. A little girl in Arizona got lucky when Brian Zach, lieutenant of the Kingman Police Department, came to her house to check on her. Eventually, he saved her by taking her in.

Brian met 4-year-old Kaila in March 2018 when he was working as a patrol sergeant. He and his officers received a call to check Kaila's residence and Brian ended up spending the night to bond with her. The 4-year-old is a survivor of abuse, reported Good Morning America.

"We colored, we snacked ... she held my hand and she was just this cute little thing," Brian said. "Once detectives came, they picked her up and took her to the hospital," he added.

After spending hours playing with the little girl, when the police officer went home he told his wife, Cierra, that he wanted to bring the child home. However, before the-parents-of-2 got that opportunity, the little girl had to be treated for multiple injuries. She had suffered physical abuse and her caretakers now face criminal charges.

But Brian and Kaila's destinies were fated to cross. When child protective services (CPS) couldn't find immediate placement for the girl, Brian and Cierra took her in.

"She came with a sippy cup, a bag of clothes that didn't fit her and that was it," Brian said. "Within the second day she was calling my wife 'mom' or 'mommy,'" he added. "I was 'guy' for a week or two and then when she started preschool she learned who dad was," he added.

It is unimaginable how brave Kaila has been despite being so young. She not only survived the abuse from her original caretakers but adjusted into a new home as well. On August 18, 2020, almost 30 months since she started living with the Zachs, they adopted her at Mohave County Superior Court in Lake Havasu City.

"We lived each week not knowing if she was going to go back to her biological parents, or how long we were going to keep her," Brian said. "Our goal was to love and care for this little girl for as long as it happened."

It would have broken the Zachs' hearts to lose the youngest member of their family. Now, she gets to be their daughter forever. The police officer added that the little girl likes preschool, animals, dancing, and make-believe play when going on "cruises vacations" in her cardboard box, according to KITV. "She is so comical, she is so witty," he added. "She's just a character." The dad wants other families considering adoption to know that the process is "well worth it."

It is incredible how far she has come while growing up in a loving home. After all, when children are loved and cherished, they thrive. It might have taken her a while to trust the new adults around her after being hurt by others, but she seems to have moved on from that.

Kingman Police Department's chief of police Rusty Cooper told GMA, "Lt. Brian Zach’s commitment to public safety is exemplified in his commitment and love for Kaila. Both Brian and his wife Cierra are amazing parents. They are committed to the service of others and a cause that is greater than themselves. We are proud of Brian and thankful that he and his family are part of the Kingman Police Department."
