The unnamed bride-to-be said that she had been planning her dream wedding for seven months when her "fiance" dropped the bombshell on her.
Planning our weddings may be stressful but it's also one of the best parts of our adult life. It's all about the joy of sharing our future with someone for the rest of our lives. And, looking for the perfect wedding dress is one of the crucial steps of wedding planning. However, one woman hit a roadblock when she reached that step, and in the most unexpected way.
The unnamed bride-to-be said that she had been planning her dream wedding for seven months only for her fiance to tell her that he never proposed. The man forgot he asked her to marry him entirely and was unwilling to acknowledge that they were dating. The woman was shocked, to say the least. She took to social media to seek advice and vent her troubles.
When she told him that she was going to buy the wedding dress, he snapped back at her that he never asked to get married to her. "Nine months ago my (who I thought was) fiancé asked me to marry him," the bride-to-be said in a Facebook post, according to 7 News. She didn't think of anything when he didn't have a ring for her.
"He didn’t have a ring so I assumed it was a spur of the moment decision, but I am a chill woman ... I understood the ring will come later and all that matters is we have each other. I have been planning my dream wedding for seven months now. When I told him I was going dress shopping, he looked at my(sic) like I have five heads. Long story short, he claims he never proposed to me!" she said.
This might be one of the most bizarre ways to call off a wedding! Not only did he say that they weren't engaged, but also implied that they weren't a couple and he was possibly seeing other women. "He said 'Why would I propose to a woman I’m not even dating?'" the woman said. She also wanted advice about what to do about her situation and was thinking of an extreme way of handling it.
"I’m thinking of tricking him into coming to our wedding and just seeing what happens," she said. This trick sounds just as disingenuous as her partner. "Not too sure what else I could do," she added.
Some people responded to the woman's dilemma by adding their two bits. "I didn’t know I was dating my husband for the first two weeks, but that is way different than being engaged for months," said one. "She probably said something clever or cute and the guy said 'Will you marry me?' tongue in cheek," said another. Yet another person commented saying, "It’s gotta be that... like she grabbed him a snack while she was up and he said 'Ugh marry me' or something and she ran with it."
It sounds unlikely that a woman won't understand when a man was joking about proposing, and this is not the first time something like this has happened. In another incident, a woman told Mirror UK that her fiance forgot that they were engaged when they went venue hunting.
The couple had been together for 10 years and were parents to three boys. "I was so excited about the wedding and couldn’t wait to become Mrs Watts," said Paula, 36, in 2010. "Pete agreed to look at venues with me but on the way, he asked where we were going. I reminded him and he replied, ‘Whose wedding?’ I looked to see if he was joking but he wasn’t and I burst into tears," she said.
Unlike the first woman, Paul had a gold band with three diamonds, and their sons are witnesses. "I secretly hoped I would become his wife one day, so when he proposed at home in front of our three boys I was ecstatic. I couldn’t say yes quickly enough," she said.
Eventually, he started forgetting other things too and it turned out that he had a massive tumor in his brain. The couple married after he underwent two surgeries and radiotherapy.
"Despite everything – the forgotten proposal, the brush with death – our love has prevailed and now I’m finally Mrs Watts, I couldn’t be prouder," said Paula.
