"I have started the morning by crying," his wife Emma Heming Willis said.
Family members of Bruce Willis have expressed the sorrow they are experiencing on the actor's birthday this year, one month after he was given the news that he has frontotemporal dementia (FTD). The actor's wife, Emma Heming Willis, shared an emotional video on March 19 on Instagram celebrating his 68th birthday amidst his recent health problems, per TODAY. “Today is my husband’s birthday. I have started the morning by crying, as you can see by my swollen eyes and snotty nose,” she said. “I do have times of sadness, every day. Grief, every day. And I’m really feeling it today on his birthday,” she added.
The 44-year-old model explained that she was editing a montage to post for her husband's birthday when she experienced these emotions. “As much as I do it for myself, I do it for you, because I know how much you love my husband and it means so much to me, so thank you,” she explained.
In a second video, she shared her wishes for her husband's birthday. "My birthday wish for Bruce is that you continue to keep him in your prayers and highest vibrations because his sensitive Pisces soul will feel it," she wrote in the caption. "Thank you so much for loving and caring for him too."
Scout LaRue Willis, the 31-year-old daughter of Bruce Willis and his ex-wife Demi Moore, also posted a heartfelt message on Instagram in honor of her father's birthday. She shared an old picture of herself perched on her father's shoulders, her cheek resting against his head. She requested for “love, tenderness, care, and prayer” to be sent to her father in her caption, referring to him as “one of my best friends, the Pisces king, the master of duality, both action hero icon and gentle girl dad.”
While this birthday of the Die Hard actor was filled with "deep love" Scout Willis admitted that it was not an "easy day," writing, "Our grief really does show us the depth of our loving for someone."
"Grief is a price I’ll always pay to know what it is to feel such love. I’m sending my love to anyone who has ever felt the capacity stretched by the enormity of love and humanness of grief," she wrote.
The actor's 29-year-old daughter Tallulah Willis, whom he also shares with Moore, shared several throwback images of her father and a picture with him on Instagram. "Feeling awash with all the good energies and love headed this Willis way!" she wrote. "I love him and he loves me — what a delight!"
The family had previously issued a statement after finding out that the patriarch has FTD, emphasizing that they will continue raising awareness of the condition, while also thanking fans for their support. “Your continued compassion, understanding, and respect will enable us to help Bruce live as full a life as possible,” they wrote.
