Bruce Willis didn't believe in love after his divorce. But when he met Emma, his world shifted and he found himself opening up to love.
Die Hard may have been an action film, but after knowing about the lead actor Bruce Willis' love story, you'll realize that he's certainly a die-hard romantic. And it all began when he met his wife, Emma Heming.
For a long time after his divorce from Demi Moore, the actor stopped believing in love. In fact, he thought being on his own was no big deal. Until he met Emma. It was then that he realized that he had been miserable before her.
It certainly wasn't love at first sight and both of them remained friends for years, even as they were with other partners. However, that changed when Emma decided to give Bruce a chance and go out on a date with him. It was the date that set the ball rolling, as it convinced them that they were meant for each other.
“We went on one date, on the Friday before Emma was getting ready to move back to New York, and then we fell mad crazy in love,” Bruce Willis told W magazine, according to Access Online. "When you think about where are you going to find that big love of your life, you seldom think it’s someone you already know. You think it’s someone you’re yet to meet."
Soon enough, in 2009, they tied the knot and welcomed two daughters, Mabel Ray and Evelyn Penn, into their lives.
10 years have gone by and their love has not diminished one bit which is why the two decided to renew their vows for their 10-year anniversary. What made it even more special was having their daughters there. “It was so much fun having our two young daughters there,” Emma, 40, told Us Weekly.
She said it was important to both Bruce, 64, and her, that their daughters feel included in a wedding ceremony. “It was really for them, to be able to be flower girls, for them to be a part of something that feels kind of monumental,” she explained. “Ten years felt like a big deal and something fun to celebrate.”
She admitted that she even planned the whole event. “I kind of whipped that up really quickly,” she said. “It wasn’t months of planning. There was no wedding planner. It was just me. We got the family together, and we had a great time.”
And that event meant that it was a good chance for a family reunion. Mabel and Evelyn got to spend quality time with Bruce’s daughters from his marriage to Demi Moore — Rumer, 30, Scout, 27, and Tallulah, 25. “Oh my gosh, when the older ones are around, the little ones want nothing to do with me or Bruce,” Emma exclaimed. “The older ones, they’re awesome, and they love being around their young sisters. The young ones just adore them. We’re moving back west, actually, so that we can be closer to them. The girls are very happy about that.”
Part of the guest list was also Demi Moore, Bruce's ex-wife. “She welcomed me into her family like I welcomed her into ours. Again, I have so much respect for her. I have so much respect for how Bruce and Demi worked through their divorce to be able to put their children first. I learned so much from that and grew so much from watching that. It was important for her to be there. She was at our first wedding. I loved having her there again. I wouldn’t do it without her.”
So then the only question remaining in our minds is this - what is the secret for such a long-lasting, happy marriage? “I think we’ve always had a lot of respect for each other, which has really helped build a great foundation,” she said. “He makes me laugh. He’s funny and he’s smart, and nuts, and always keeps me on my toes, so it’s fun.”
