Bruce Willis who has taken a break from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia was recently spotted in Malibu with friends. The 67-year-old The Sixth Sense star was seen enjoying a drink with friends on December 1 at SunLife Organics. Wearing a navy zip-up jacket, a white henley shirt, light denim jeans, and a black beanie, the star opted for a casual look for the day out. The actor was spotted outside just days after Clarence Gilyard Jr, who starred with the actor in Die Hard, died at age 66 after battling a long illness. The actor played Theo, the quirky wise-cracking computer hacker to Willis' investigator John McClane in the classic 1988 action film.
According to Deadline, Gilyard Jr was not only known for roles in such TV series as Walker, Texas Ranger, and Matlock and films including Top Gun, but he was also an academic and worked as a film and theater professor at The University of Nevada Las Vegas’ College of Fine Arts.
Even though it wasn’t his biggest role, Die Hard wouldn’t be the same movie without Clarence Gilyard Jr. as Theo. Rest well. pic.twitter.com/9A0V2Lhj4e— Arvid Nelson, in a glass house throwing rocks (@arvidthetwit) November 29, 2022
As for Bruce Willis, the retired actor is spending time with family and friends and taking a break from his professional life since his diagnosis last year. According to LA Times, his declining cognitive state was reportedly a concern around sets in recent years. In 2020 Mike Burns, the director of Out of Death (one of 22 films the actor did in four years) asked the film's screenwriter in a June 2020 email "to knock down Bruce’s page count by about 5 pages. We also need to abbreviate his dialogue a bit so that there are no monologues, etc.” Later the director admitted he noticed something was wrong. “After the first day of working with Bruce, I could see it firsthand and I realized that there was a bigger issue at stake here and why I had been asked to shorten his lines,” Burns said.
Emma Heming Willis has now taken the role of her husband's full-time caregiver. In March 2009, they finally made things official by tying the knot in the Turks and Caicos Islands. In 2012, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Mabel Ray and in 2014, Emma gave birth to their second daughter, Evelyn Penn.
For the holidays the actor spent time with his blended family. Ex-wife Demi Moore shared a sweet snap of the entire family recently captioning it, "We are FAMILY!! Getting into the holiday spirit!" The picture included Willis' five daughters Tallulah, Scout, and Rumer with ex Demi Moore and Evelyn and Mabel with wife Emma Heming Willis. Also seen is Willis holding Tallulah's dog. A source told PEOPLE that Willis is "happy" about his new role spending more time at home with loved ones. "He is happy about becoming a grandpa," the insider told the outlet. "He loves having a big family. They are all spending Christmas together. Bruce is enjoying not working and having more family time. He likes being around his girls more," added the source.
