Cameron Diaz is opening up about her 8-year break from Hollywood. The 49-year-old kept busy writing books and even co-founded wine company Avaline during that time but now she confesses she misses the filmmaking process. She revealed that she quit acting amid mental health struggles associated with fame and the industry. “I am absolutely a victim to all of the societal objectification and exploitations that women are subjected to. I have bought into all of them myself at certain times,” Diaz previously told RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage on the podcast Rule Breakers, according to USA Today. “Fame is very infantilizing. It’s very much about keeping somebody coddled in a state of like, we see a little child and think, ‘It’s so cute, I want it to always be cute, and if I keep it cute by always treating it cute, maybe it’ll stay cute forever.’ And that’s how people treat you.” The Bad Teacher actress officially announced her retirement in 2018.

But now she plans on coming back to the spotlight. In a recent interview with CBS Mornings' Dana Jacobson, Diaz shared, "When you’re doing something that you know and you’ve done well and you know how it works and it’s consumed your whole life for so long, it’s kind of a nice thing to kind of go, ‘You know what? Let me just step back for a second, take a look at what the whole picture looks like for me and what are the things that I could do better and be more engaged with that would make me feel more whole.’ And I did that," Diaz said.

The There's Something About Mary star confessed that she missed acting but wasn't necessarily a fan of the lifestyle that came with it despite being the highest-paid actress over 40 when she quit. "I miss aspects of acting, or making movies.… Making movies is a particular skill set that is fun to exercise and be a part of," she said. "It’s a different lifestyle and you kind of have to be ready to do that."

Fans can see Diaz return to the big screen in the Netflix film Back in Action starring alongside Jamie Foxx. This is her first role in eight years and since becoming a mom to a two-year-old daughter, Raddix, whom she shares with her husband Benji Madden.  The actress admitted that motherhood has "definitely" changed her. What she loves the most is "being able to have an influence on a child that's developing. All mothers have that moment where you're watching your child and they're doing something the first time and you're like, 'I remember doing that!' " she explained. "It's really cool!"
