Diaz announced her retirement from movies in 2018 during an interview. She last appeared in a movie in 2014.
It's been seven years since we saw actress Cameron Diaz on the silver screen. She was last seen in the 2014 adaptation of Annie. Since then there were rumors of her retiring from acting which she confirmed in a 2018 interview with ET Online where she said, "I am actually retired."
Now, the 48-year-old is enjoying her married life with Good Charlotte band member, Benji Madden, and their daughter, Raddix Madden. It looks like the actress doesn't miss performing so much. She recently appeared on the SiriusXM show Quarantined with Bruce, to promote her new wine line, Avaline, where she said, "Will I ever make a movie again? I'm not looking to, but will I? I don't know. I have no idea."
"Maybe, never say never, but I couldn't imagine being a mom now where I'm at as a mother with my child at her first year to have to be on a movie set that takes 14 hours, 16 hours of my day away from my child." Raddix was born in December 2019.
Explaining how she cannot think of a minute away from her daughter, Diaz continued, "I just couldn't ... I wouldn't have been the mom that I am now had I chosen to do that at any other time in my life. I feel for so many mothers who can't, that have to go to work, you know, whatever they're doing. I feel so much for them and for their children and for all of that, but it does really take a village."
"I just feel so blessed," she added, "that I get to be here now with my child and, you know, get to be the mother that I get to be. It's such a blessing, it's completely privileged, and I'm just really, really grateful."
Back in 2019, the Charlie's Angels actress opened up to InStyle about why she took retirement from acting. "I started [experiencipng fame] when I was 22, so 25 years ago — that’s a long time."
"The way I look at it is that I’ve given more than half of my life to the public. I feel it’s OK for me to take time for myself now to reorganize and choose how I want to come [back] into the world. If I decide to. I don’t miss performing. Right now I’m looking at the landscape of wellness and all that. But whatever I do, it has to be something I’m passionate about — something that just feels effortless."
In a conversation with Gwyneth Paltrow for the latter's digital series, In Goop Health: The Sessions, the Bad Teacher star told Paltrow, that she found "peace" after leaving films. "I got a peace in my soul. Because I finally was taking care of myself. … I just feel grounded and light."
And the actress doesn't seem to be kidding. Diaz is only worried about her family, business, and herself right now. "That's pretty much it right now," she revealed. "Avaline is the only sort of day-to-day work that I'm doing other than, you know, being a wife and a mother." She added that the new duties have been "rewarding" as "it really has been the most fulfilling part of my life so far."
During an Instagram live last year in April, the star told her friend and Who What Wear CEO Katherine Powe that she's loving motherhood and called it the "best part" of her life. “I love being a mother. It’s the best, best, best part of my life. I’m so, so grateful and so happy and it’s the best thing ever and I’m so lucky to get to do it with Benji and we’re just having the best time. It’s so great. I’m just thrilled.”
