Life doesn't always go as per plan. We may carefully chart out our path and yet something unexpected can always throw a wrench in it. Country singer Carrie Underwood, 40, had a plan for herself way back in 2017, but they went haywire and things got out of her control.
The mother-of-two, who recently celebrated the second birthday of her second son, revealed that she "prayed" for him. "Jacob, we longed for you. We prayed for you. We walked a long, hard road in order to one day hold you. Today you are two. You are silly and strong. You love to play and sing and follow your big brother around. You are loved. You are cherished. You are an incredible blessing from God. Happy birthday, sweet boy!" she concluded, as per Daily Mail.
The singer, who is married to ice hockey player Mike Fisher, has previously mentioned that she had Jacob after experiencing three miscarriages. The Cry Pretty singer told People in 2018 that she faced fertility struggles between 2017 and 2018. "I’d kind of planned that 2017 was, you know, going to be the year that I work on new music, and I have a baby," said the mom. "We got pregnant in early 2017, and didn’t work out," she added.
Losing a pregnancy can be devastating for a woman but she persisted by leaning on her faith at the time. "And that was the thing, in the beginning, it was like, 'Okay, God, we know this is, just wasn’t Your timing. And that is all right. We will bounce back and figure our way through it,'" said the mother-of-two.
Underwood suffered her second miscarriage in 2017 and the third happened in 2018. "At that point, it was just kind of like, ‘Okay, like, what’s the deal? What is all of this?'” she said. "I had always been afraid to be angry," explained the "Blown Away" singer. "Because we are so blessed. And my son, Isaiah, is the sweetest thing. And he’s the best thing in the world. And I’m like, 'If we can never have any other kids, that’s okay, because he’s amazing.’ And I have this amazing life. Like, really, what can I complain about? I can’t. I have an incredible husband, incredible friends, an incredible job, an incredible kid. Can I be mad? No," she added.
Underwood had welcomed her first child in 2015 but wanted to have another child. When she got pregnant for the fifth time and thought she would have a miscarriage again she experienced anger. The most emotional moment for her was when she cuddled with her son and thought, "Why on Earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can’t have a kid? Like, what is this? Shut the door. Like, do something. Either shut the door or let me have a kid."
She believes that God heard her then. "And for the first time, I feel like I actually I told God how I felt. That was like a Saturday — and the Monday I went to the doctor to, like, confirm, another miscarriage. And they told me everything was great!" said the singer.
After Jacob's birth, the couple was ecstatic and they have been celebrating each of his birthdays like he was a "miracle baby." On his first birthday, she wrote on social media, "Happy birthday, Jacob! How are you already 1 year old? You are smiley, crazy, smart, soooo fast and into everything! And, apparently, you love cake! I can't wait to see your personality continue to shine! I have a good feeling you're going to keep us all on our toes for years to come! I thank God for you each and every day. You are truly our miracle baby!!! Mommy loves you!"
