Celine Dion has had the most enduring relationship with late husband and Canadian music producer Rene Angelil. Although she was very young when she tied the knot, and much younger when they actually met, so sure was the singer about her love for him that she never left her husband's side until his death. For some, having this kind of relationship could be a lifelong dream, but for Dion, it was the way of her life; effortless and organic.
In January 2016, Angelil lost his battle to throat cancer and left behind his wife and three children. It ended their marriage of 21 years but the singer's love for her late husband never died. Though Dion was only a 12-year-old aspiring artist while Angelil was 38 when they met, it was not until much later that they felt drawn towards each other. Also, they were each other's man and wife in the truest and purest way. In fact, in her whole life, Dion had not kissed another man except her husband and probably that's why her passion and love for him have not dampened.
“Before he left, it was very, very difficult for all of us,” Dion told CBS News in October 2016. “For me especially, and my children, to see the man of my life die a little bit more every day. And when he left, it was kind of a relief for me that the man that I love, the only man that I kissed, the only man that I loved. Yeah. I never kissed another man in my life. So the man of my life was my partner, and we were one. So when he stopped suffering, I said to myself, he’s okay. And he deserves not to suffer.”
When she was asked if she wants to fall in love again in the future because she is still so young. This was her reply, “Not now. Unh-uh. I love. I love. I love him. I’m still in love with him. And I have the love of my children. I have the love of my fans. I love the people that I work with. So my life is not empty of love," she explained.
“But there’s a song from Sia, ‘I go to sleep and imagine that you’re there with me.’ And I go to bed with him. And I come on stage with him. And so I’m still married to him.”
If this isn't the definition is everlasting love, what is?
The one fact that makes the My Heart Will Go On singer practically the face of true love, is that even after years she is still so in love with her late husband. She had allowed his memories to fill her up with more love and passion for her life, her children, and her art. Even today, every time she talks about him there is a twinkle in her eyes and a smile on her face.
In a November 2019 interview with Andy Cohen, the mother-of-three reiterated the same thing that she had said years ago which proves that love really does not have an expiry date. "I do not date, I do not have a boyfriend. If I do find someone, great. If I don't, great," she confessed. "Because I'm still in love, once you are in love so much... I have lived all my life with René, he is still within me. I see him through the eyes of my children every day. I'm so passionate about life. I'm so lucky to have my three beautiful children."
While many of her fans and admirers would want their beloved celeb to settle down again; her relationship with Angelil will go down in history as one of the most inspiring ones.
