The 'Thor' actor and his family have come together to donate and he is urging his followers and well-wishers to come to the aid of Australia.
Australian Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth and his family are devastated about the bushfires in Australia, which has claimed the lives of 23 people and killed thousands of animals. The Thor actor announced that he and his family are donating $1 million towards the bushfire relief fund in Australia.
The Ghost Busters actor made the announcement on Instagram after other Aussie celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, Kylie and Dannii Minogue, as well as singer Pink publicly announced $500,000 donations to the cause, according to News.com.au.
Hemsworth shared a video message with the caption, "Hi everyone. Like you, I want to support the fight against the bushfires here in Australia. My family and I are contributing a million dollars. Hopefully you guys can chip in too."
In the video, he conveyed a heartfelt message thanking everyone who had made contributions already and requesting people to support Australia in this trying time. "As you're well aware, the bushfires in Australia have caused massive devastation. They continue to burn, there's warmer weather on its way, we're really still in the thick of it here and there's plenty of challenging times ahead. What we need is your support and your donations. I'm going to put forward a million dollars and was hoping that all of you could contribute in any way, shape or form. Every dollar counts. That money goes directly to the firefighters, the people on the frontline, the people who have suffered, the communities that have taken a hit and who are in desperate need of our support. I want to say a huge 'thank you' to everyone who's sent all their well-wishes and donations already. It's greatly appreciated here in Australia. Dig deep, lots of love and we'll keep pushing forwards. Cheers," he said, reports Daily Mail.
Red Cross Australia responded to his generous contribution, saying, "We are blown away by your support. We cannot thank you enough." The Marvel actor's wife, Elsa Pataky, and his brother, actor Liam Hemsworth, shared his message on their Instagram accounts as well. The announcement was made after the situation in Australia dominated the Golden Globe awards.
Instagram celebrity and comedian Celeste Barber, has been able to raise $41.5 million, most of which came from Australians and wellwishers from around the world. Celebrities from across the world have been bringing attention to this trying time in Australia, which has been fighting the fires for months and expects to do so for a long time to come.

The bushfires that have been raging in Australia since September have claimed 12 million acres of land and 1400 homes, lives of millions of animals and 23 humans, including two firefighters, according to USAToday.
