Police officers are the ones we turn to in case of mishaps and troubles because they are the ones who take responsibility for making sure the world abides by the laws. However, what do you do when they are the ones breaking the law?

Roy Pereira, a 49-year-old police officer married Abbi Wright in July 2018, making her his fourth wife. The twist? He was still married to his third wife, Christine O’Hare when he walked down the aisle with Abbi.

Roy must've believed that he would never be caught in the act but his life became a roller coaster ride when Christine tracked him down on Facebook and reminded him that she still was his wife, according to The Sun.

The British Transport Police officer admitted to one count of bigamy between July 20, 2018, and August 10, 2019, when he appeared at Sheffield Magistrates Court via videolink on January 19 from his home back in Stratford, East London. District Judge Grace Leong had ordered pre-sentence reports and a victim impact statement to be received from Abbi before the court proceedings where it was heard that Roy committed the bigamy when he was a community support officer in London.

Judge Grace displayed concern for Abbi as she added, "It is an unusual offense and very rarely before the courts. I am more concerned about her feelings having been deceived into marriage with an already married man."

Claiming that Roy is no longer in a relationship with Abbi, his solicitor Karen Moxon Smith revealed, "At the time he was not as well as he could have been. The only challenge to the charge is that Mr. Pereira is saying that the complainant knew that he had been married to Christine O’Hare. The relationship with Miss Wright is over. He now lives by himself."

She further revealed that Roy is working at BTP in an office-based admin role but is soon expected to be relieved from that position permanently. The policeman is facing four months of jail time for inflicting "mental trauma" on Abbi.

His third wife, Christine, discovered his bigamy back in August 2019 following which she wrote on his Facebook timeline, "Tutt tutt tutt …..who has been a naughty boy….. you do realize I am still your wife so marrying that lady last year has put you down as a fraudster and a bigamist."

"My barrister knows everything about you Mr. Pereira so you can’t hide anymore. If you try leaving the country your passport is flagged lol…..bet you wish now you dealt with our divorce proceedings," she added.

Christine and Roy tied the knot in December 2009. He was still married to her when he got hitched to Abbi. Before Christine and Abbi, the PCSO (Police community support officer) was married to Clare Elston, his wife number two and one unnamed first love.

According to HG.org, when a person has more than one spouse in any state in the U.S. within the country, it is a criminal offense that may lead to criminal charges that may result in the person being sentenced to life behind bars. It is a void relationship legally and the spouse who has been affected by the bigamous marriage can seek an annulment. Roy for now has been granted bail but he will be sentenced on a later date.
