As per The Columbian, Sheriff Sgt. Chris Skidmore reportedly said that there is no ongoing threat to the neighborhood. Authorities said that it was unknown if there was a recorded history of domestic violence in the family and did not give details regarding what could have led up to such a horrific event. They couldn't interview the woman due to her severe injuries. She was intubated and taken into surgery shortly after arriving at the hospital. The sheriff’s office Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the case.

Rowdy Rusakov and his girlfriend Emily Edmonds who are in the neighborhood said that they remember Young "coming out with her newborn," reports KGW8. "I would not expect this to happen here at all or anywhere. It's just, it's sad," expressed Rusakov. "Everybody's really friendly and over the summer all the moms were out with their young children and playing," added Edmonds.

In a GoFundMe campaign, Amy Ruth wrote, "Some tragedies are beyond words and as much as we want to answer why no amount of detail will satisfy the question." Ruth has requested everyone to contribute in order to help Young transition to her new reality to accommodate her paralysis.
