Damar Hamlin, a Buffalo Bills player who is recovering from a cardiac arrest, is receiving sweet get-well cards from Cincinnati elementary school students, per TODAY. The letter-writing initiative was organized by Sarah Taylor, the wife of Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, and involves about 40 schools. Cardinal Pacelli School, the couple's children's Catholic school, is where the initiative got its start.
On January 6, the handmade cards were brought to Hamlin's hospital, according to a tweet from Local12 WKRC-TV anchor and reporter Meghan Mongillo. "How cool is this! Sarah Taylor (Zac’s wife) started a campaign for kids at her children’s school to make cards for Damar Hamlin - now 40 Cincy schools are taking part!! All these letters of love and support will be dropped off for the Hamlin family tomorrow at hospital," she tweeted.
Sarah Taylor, the wife of #Bengals coach Zac, started by asking her kids’ classmates if they wanted to make cards for the #Bills Damar Hamlin. That extended to 53 different schools, Sarah collected all the cards and personally delivered them Friday. #whodeynation #billsmafia pic.twitter.com/fnlxYdoFrd

School principal Terri Cento shared that the school was eager to do this, "Mrs. Taylor, reached out to us about helping with a get well cards campaign to show support for Damar Hamlin. We were eager to lend a hand," she said, adding, "Our students and their families have a lot of compassion and value the power of prayer. Through prayer and the creation of our get well cards, we hope to give support to Damar and his family."
24-year-old Hamlin suffered a heart attack during a Buffalo Bills vs. Cincinnati Bengals game on January 2. "Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals," read an announcement tweeted by the Buffalo Bills. "His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the (University of Cincinnati) Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition."

After tackling Bengals player Tee Higgins, Hamlin reportedly collapsed to the ground, NBC News reported. "Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics," the NFL said in a website announcement. "He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition."
“We’ve talked to him about all the support that’s been given from Cincinnati, Buffalo, and really all across the country, for him and his family during this time,” Pritts said, adding, “His mom and dad have talked to him about what has happened, and we expect that we’ll continue to have ongoing conversations with him. ... We know that it’s not only that the lights are on, we know that he’s home."
