She never imagined herself married until she met this charismatic James Bond. He just swept her off her feet.
Daniel Craig (aka the beloved James Bond) is just about as secretive in real life as he is on screen. For starters, there is hardly anything people know about his private life with Rachel Weisz, his wife of eight years. The duo, who have been together for almost a decade, is extremely careful about keeping things under wraps. But the little insight we have of their life shows just how adorable a couple they make.
When she was asked in 2012 if it was love at first sight, she told Marie Claire, "I'm going to change the subject... It wasn't really like that. We'd been friends for ages." Neither of them likes to talk about their personal life since there is already so much scrutiny from external sources.
Even before they started dating each other, they had known each other for years. Their relationship was born in friendship since they actually met at university, decades before getting married. Both of them were in long-term relationships and had dated other people before realizing that their feelings for each other ran deeper. Daniel was married to actress Fiona Loudon for two years and they have a daughter together while Rachel was dating American filmmaker and producer Darren Aronofsky, and has a son with him.
What sparked their chemistry was working as an on-screen couple in the 2010 movie Dream House, according to Harper's Bazaar. They dated for a very short time before tying the knot. Until she met Daniel, she wasn't sure that she wanted to be married, but he changed her mind in less than six months of dating. In June 2011, the couple got married in an extremely private ceremony, which was attended only by their children.
"I never thought I would get married," she said. "It was not an ambition of mine. It was the opposite. I couldn’t relate to romantic comedies — marriage seems to be the whole point of them... Then it just happened, happily, at a more mature moment."
The wife of the former James Bond actor is fiercely protective of her relationship. "He's just too famous. It would be a betrayal. You have to protect your marriage," she said, according to Marie Claire. "When you're young, you tell your girlfriends everything. One of the great pleasures of not being an adolescent is that you don't have to share everything. When you're married, that door closes. The audience goes, and you're in your own life."
And she added that both of them are on the same page about this. It is rare to find a partner who would understand you so deeply as he does.
"Daniel and I are really similar...We’re just really crap at talking about our private lives," she said. Their similarity shows up in the things they like to do together. "We talk about films that we love or plays. We love to go to see theater and discuss things that we've seen," said the Oscar-nominated actress. "We respect each other. We appreciate each other's work. He liked Disobedience very much." They also love cooking together and talking about books and poetry. "I love to cook. Daniel is also very good at it," Weisz said in 2015. "We always enjoy trying out different kinds of cuisine and having fun with that."
Despite their fame outside the home, they make sure that inside they are just one ordinary couple and family. Their one rule: not bringing work home, has been successful in keeping them strong. "There is nothing worse than two actors getting together and talking about acting. It’s like the end—it’s the worst," she told the Sun UK in 2013.
The couple welcomed their first child together, a daughter, in April 2018. Before she was born, the proud mama had said, "Daniel and I are so happy. We’re going to have a little human. We can’t wait to meet him or her. It’s all such a mystery." While the couple hasn't planned on having more children yet, she acknowledged that "the preciousness of a new life and family means so much more now I’m more mature and older."
She's more at ease now as a wife and says that she wears her ring with pride. "I’m very happy being married, very, very happy...I love being Mrs. Craig...I’m Mrs. Craig on my checkbooks and passports and things" doted the actress.
