McPhee announced her pregnancy back in December 2020 through an Instagram post.
David Foster and Katharine McPhee have finally welcomed their first baby together. The 36-year-old American actress, singer, and songwriter's representative Leslie Sloane told People, "Katharine McPhee and David Foster have welcomed a healthy baby boy. Mom, Dad, and son are all doing wonderfully." That's all the details that were provided.
A source close to the couple told the outlet back in October 2020 that Foster and McPhee were expecting right after they were spotted buying baby stuff in Montecito, California. Just a day after the outlet's reveal, the singer almost confirmed the news that everyone was expecting, when she wrote on her Instagram stories, "I just came home and opened this gift from Aperol Spritz, which for those of you who don't know ... is one of my favorite drinks and it reminds you of being in Capri. Thank you, Aperol Spritz. I won't be drinking this anytime soon — wink, wink — but I'm very excited," as cited by People.
Then in December, the Waitress star announced that she was expecting her first child, sharing a picture of her cradling her baby bump while wearing a long powder-blue coat. The caption only had two blue hearts with a butterfly in between. Everyone guessed it was a clue to the baby's gender.
All doubts about the baby were cleared when the American Idol alum recently appeared on the Women on Top podcast for an interview where she said that she was "relieved" that her son won't be affected by remarks and comments she had to experience as a little girl.
"Now that I am having a boy," she said, "I'm kind of like, 'Wow, there's really different things I need to worry about to teach him versus the things I would be thinking about with a girl,' but it's kind of refreshing because I don't feel like I need to think about — I don't think men are as affected by those sort of societal, like, 'This is the way you look' (comments). I think men have different issues and different things to worry about."
The baby boy is McPhee's first child but sixth for Foster. He has three daughters Sara, 39, Erin, 38, and Jordan, 34, whom he shares with second wife Rebecca Dyer, and two daughters Allison, 50, and Amy, 46, from his previous relationships.
The couple met in 2006 on ABC's American Idol Season 5 where Foster mentored McPhee. They married on June 28, 2019, at the Church of Saint Yeghiche in the South Kensington district of West London which, according to Us Weekly, is the day McPhee released her first single post the reality show.
Just hours before the ceremony, she wrote on Instagram, "Exactly 13 years ago today my very first single, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, was released right after Idol. Today... I’m marrying the man who produced it. Life is full of beautiful coincidences, isn’t it? Thank you for taking me over the rainbow, David."
Last year in June, the love birds celebrated their first marriage anniversary. Sharing their wedding photograph on her Instagram page, the singer wrote, "A year ago today I married the love of my life. Thank you for always loving me and inspiring me in all aspects of my life. I love you. Here’s to the future! (Oh and happy anniversary to the other love of my life - this dreamy dress!)"
As one can imagine, the couple has faced quite a few questions about their 34-year age gap, but that hasn't stopped them from falling deeper in love. In an interview with USA Today, the 71-year-old Best of Me hitmaker said, "Well, we have that musical connection," referring to his relationship with McPhee. "Look, we have haters on social media, and there's not a person around that's not going to make some comment about the age difference."
"But there are so many things that can bring a marriage down: It can be financial, it can be children, it can be geography, it can be infidelity. And one of them is age difference, but that's our only problem. Everything else is in line, so it's not going to bring us down."
Congratulations to the new parents!
