"You can go on for a long time. I'm still dancing. And singing!" the actor said.
Dick Van Dyke, is a well-known actor in theatre, screen, and television. Even at 97, he has worked hard to maintain his physical fitness, despite now having to walk with a cane. The actor who is on the verge of being a centenarian, has certainly managed to keep his style, per BuzzFeed.
The Mary Poppins actor is one of the few people in the world who have established the standard for longevity. In 2020's Kidding, which starred Jim Carrey, the Hollywood legend is recognized for his voiceover work. Van Dyke also starred in the comedy Capture the Flag, which was released in 2021 and was about "a group of elderly Vets [who] engage in a spirited game for the privilege of raising Old Glory every morning in their community," per IMDb.
The actor is fit enough to run errands at 97 while maintaining his style. Van Dyke hasn't made a lot of public appearances this year, but in all of the paparazzi photos taken in 2022, he seemed positively radiant. In November 2022, the actor was seen with his wife on a golf cart. Wearing a dark pair of pants, a light blue sweater, and black slippers, the actor was dressed up in a fun casual attire.
In an interview, he even went as far as to show how he keeps so fit, urging other "old guys" to follow suit. "All you old guys out there, listen to me," he said to CBS in 2021. "You can go on for a long time. I'm still dancing. And singing!" The interview also touches on Van Dyke's memorable dance sequence, where he shared that he deliberately "took the hardest one," adding, "I said I want that one... because I just had to prove I could do it."
Van Dyke received a lifetime achievement award from the Kennedy Center at the same time as the interview with CBS' This Morning. Although the legendary actor and TV personality has to use a cane to walk now, he discussed his exercise regime, which keeps him active—and dancing—well into his 90s, per Men's Health.
The video, which was shot in the backyard of his Malibu house, shows Van Dyke performing several fundamental ab exercises, such as crunches and leg raises. Van Dyke declares at the end of the clip that he has no intention of slowing down either and that he is excitedly anticipating becoming 100. "George Burns made it," he says, with a laugh. "And I'm gonna make it too."
