Ed Sheeran met his now-wife Cherry when he was only 11 years old, but they went separate ways after school. They reconnected in 2015 and the rest is history.
The global singing phenomenon Ed Sheeran is a man of many emotions, but above all else, he is a man who knows how to express love. The British popstar, 28, writes and sings exquisite love songs that we have been crooning for years now. For someone to be so romantic at heart, there surely must be a muse behind it all. Sure enough, the inspiration behind one of the biggest hits of his career, Perfect, was none other than the woman of his dreams, his wife, Cherry Seaborn.
"Perfect was the first song that I wrote for the album, It was inspired by Cherry. The line that goes, ‘Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song’ was about when we were in Ibiza listening to Future’s March Madness literally not wearing any shoes and going mental on the lawn, which was quite a nice time. I didn’t see her first reaction to the song because she lived in New York at the time. So I just emailed it to her but she did really like it," he told Us magazine. His other hit Shape of You was also reportedly inspired by her.
They've known each other since they were kids, when they met at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk at the age of 11, according to Vocal.media. They went separate ways when she went to study at Duke University in North Carolina. In 2015, they reconnected, according to a new music video released by Sheeran and their first date was at Taylor Swift‘s then-annual Fourth of July fête.
The couple got married earlier in 2019 after getting engaged in January 2018. “Got myself a fiancé just before new year,” he wrote with a photo that shows him planting a kiss on her cheek after getting engaged. “We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx.”
Right after they got engaged, there had been many rumors about a secret wedding but the couple actually tied the knot in December 2018 in a private ceremony. It wasn't until July 2019 that he confirmed that they were married. Obviously, he did that through a song as well.
He referred to Seaborn as his “wife” in his single Remember the Name. "[I actually wrote it] before me and Cherry got married and I knew that we’d be married by the point that the song came out,” he said during a July 2019 interview with Charlamagne Tha God, according to Us magazine.
The new music video of another single called Put It All on Me is the first one where his wife is also featured. Until now, she had featured in his music thanks to his lyrics, but now she's actually in the music video featuring Ella Mai as well. The video features couples from across the world and we learn a snippet about their lives throughout the song.
When we see Sheeran and his wife, it is in their London apartment, according to People. Their visuals are accompanied by captions that said, "Back in high school, Ed and Cherry were crushing hard. They made out at the castle on the hill." The castle on the hill is a reference to his 2017 single and album of the same name released in 2017. “A few years ago they reconnected, there were fireworks. They married in January 2019,” the caption concluded.
