Marriages are made in heaven, some say, and it is likely true for some people. Unknowingly, the course of our lives leads us to the person we were destined to meet and fall in love with. The steps we take lead us to the person who we won't have met otherwise. For instance, actor Matt Damon, 50, met his wife Luciana, 45, only because he went out for a few drinks with the crew of a movie he was working on. Similarly, Luciana's friend Elsa Pataky, 44, met her the "one", Chris Hemsworth, 37, because she was a model and someone set them up.

However, her connection to him may have been predetermined. Pataky, who sports multiple tattoos, got the Thor symbol tattooed on her bicep when she was only 15. Back then, she couldn't have known that she would end up marrying the actor who would play Thor, the god of thunder and lightning from Marvel comics.

When asked about it, she said, "Yes, it's about Thor and I ended up marrying who plays Thor! It is shocking how things in life [turn out]. I just liked that [symbol] and the legend he had was so beautiful and I wanted to keep it," she told Vogue Australia in 2018. She must have gotten the tattoo sometime in 1991 but met Hemsworth 19 years later in 2010.

The Spanish beauty was a model at the time, and the Thor actor wasn't yet a household name. They were introduced by talent agent William Ward, as per E!Online. She had just broken up with the Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody, who had gifted her with a castle.

Pataky and the Avengers actor's first conversation was over the phone, and his deep voice left her wanting more. When she met him in real life, she was besotted, and they ended up marrying within three months. Their wedding was a spur-of-the moment event, and soon after they welcomed their first child.

She believes that they grew together after his Marvel movie was released. "In the beginning it was beautiful – when I met him he wasn’t known at all and I grew with him and experienced all his successes and changes, and then he became just so huge and I’ve been sharing that too," she told Vogue. "Going through every moment and being there with him with every success was actually a good thing – we grew together. It’s difficult when you go from being an unknown person to a very known person and all the changes that come with that.”

She doesn't have an answer to how they "survived as a couple." But like any other couple in a successful relationship, they have put in the work for it, and enjoyed 10 years of partnership and love, and also raised three kids together. "We were married and then a year after we had kids. It puts a lot of pressure on a marriage, but we came out good because there is a lot of love between us and we are very strong personalities but love each other so much. We make it work," she said.

Hemsworth revealed to GQ Australia in 2017 that they "fell in love, had kids, didn't really see each other for a few years, then fell back in love." He acknowledges that she had to "give up" more in her professional life than he did. But it has not diminished their love and the 44-year-old actress and model has a unique way of showing people how much they mean to her.

The mother-of-three has a diamond "C" jewelry that stands for "Christopher", her husband. The actress also has the letter "C" on her ring finger, which her megastar husband etched himself. He too has a tattoo on his ring finger which she etched. It's the letter "E."

The actress, whose style was described by Vogue as "Earth mum," has the symbols for each family member's initials on her forearm. She also has three dots on her finger representing her close friends – including Luciana, who has a matching version.

The couple chose to stay away from the glitz and glam of L.A. and are raising their family in Hemsworth's home country, Australia. They are close to family and friends there, and are able to be something more than celebrities. "I think our years together have been great. Every marriage has ups and downs – it’s constant work to be in a successful marriage and stay together forever. Chris’s parents have been together all their lives, and that’s such a beautiful thing, and their families are so close," she added.

She also maintains close ties to her home in Madrid, and her brother, Cristian Prieto Medianu, lives in Byron Bay, which is where they live in Australia. The Tidelands actress' brother is their family photographer, and his then-fiancé taught Spanish at their children’s school.
