Several dog attacks have been reported in recent times. In February, six-year-old Lily Norton underwent a 12-hour surgery and got over 1,000 stitches after a dog bit her face. "They were going to play cards at the table, so she sat down at the table, the friend went and got the cards, and then as soon as the friend walked back in the room, she screamed to her mom because the dog had Lily in her mouth," the girl's mother, Dorothy Norton, told News Center Maine. "And she doesn't hate all dogs, at least; that's what she told me. She just doesn't want to see that one again," she said.

In January, a single mother's nightmare came true when her 11-year-old son was attacked by three dogs while riding his bike. Justin Gilstrap suffered a torn scalp, bites on his legs, and almost lost one of his ears in the attack and was rushed to the hospital. According to a GoFundMe set up by his mother Ericka Gilstrap, the Columbia County boy was covered in bruises and had multiple face lacerations as well. She continued to state that as a single mom of 4, she will "have to be out of work for a little bit" and her son "is going to have to have a few more surgeries" so she will need help with his medical bills. "This has truly been a living nightmare," Ericka wrote in an update.
