“It was just joy, you know, just that she was here and healthy," the happy mother shared.
A family is celebrating the birth of a girl for the first time since 1885. Carolyn Clark of Caledonia was surprised when her husband Andrew told her there hadn't been a girl born to the family in a whopping 138 years!
When they first started dating, Carolyn was surprised to learn that they have no girls. “He was like, 'Oh, we don't have girls.' And I'm like, 'okay,' like, I thought he was just messing with me," said Carolyn, per WTSP. "He goes, 'No, legitimately, we have not had a girl in our direct line in over 100 years," she recalled, per PEOPLE.

But when she learned that her husband's father to his great, great-grandfather have only ever had sons, she was determined to bring a girl into the family and break the only-sons streak. “When we decided to start growing our family, I just was like, 'I'm going to try for it,'" said Carolyn, "I want the girl."
However, the first child they had turned out to be... a boy! They had a son, four-year-old Cameron, whom they absolutely adore but Carolyn was still hoping to have a girl. The couple tried again but hit heartbreaks along the way. "It was January 2021, when we had a miscarriage, our second one," explained Carolyn. A little over a year later the tides had turned and she was expecting again. “We were just, like, overwhelmed with joy," said Carolyn.

Carolyn's wish was granted on St Patrick's Day when their baby girl was born!
When they hosted a gender reveal party their friends and family were given cookies filled with either blue or pink frosting. “We did a countdown," she explained, "and we all took a bite.” It was pink! “Everyone was just screaming and jumping in disbelief, honestly," smiled Carolyn.
Andrew had some trouble picking girl names because "we’ve never thought of girl ones before," he said. Eventually, they settled on Audrey Marie Clark, a rainbow baby, who was born on Saint Patrick's Day 2023. “It was just joy, you know, just that she was here and healthy," said Carolyn. “It made it even more special that it was a girl because it was like, you were worth the wait and all the struggles.”
The new baby girl, whose name means strength, broke the family's unbelievable 138-year-long only-sons streak. The family is in love with their little lucky charm under the rainbow. “I got my girl," Carolyn said with a huge smile.
