Farrah Fawcett, Charlie's Angels actress, and Playboy model passed away in 2009 after battling anal cancer for nearly three years. Friends of the beloved star revealed that her final words were about her son, Redmond O'Neal. She was concerned about her then-24-year-old son who she shared with longtime love Ryan O'Neal as he was battling drug addiction and serving time in prison for drug-related charges. Fawcett's confidant Mela Murphy was at her bedside when she died on June 25, 2009.

“She was saying [her son’s] name, ‘Redmond,’” Murphy recalled to PEOPLE of the last moments of the superstar’s life. “That was the last thing she said … I told her I’d take care of him, that I’ll always be there for him. I said, ‘You can go now.’ It was just a few hours before she died.”

“I always thought she was going to pull through,” shared Murphy about Fawcett's battle with cancer. The two got close when she began working as her hairdresser in 1990. “Even after the chemotherapy was causing her hair to come out in clumps and she shaved her head, Farrah wanted to do a photo shoot completely bald. ‘Go for it,’ I told her. She looked so gorgeous with those high cheekbones. She had no reservations. She was about going forward."

As for Ryan O'Neal, the actor fell in love with her back in 1979. He also opened up about his relationship with Fawcett to PEOPLE, telling the outlet, "There was never a day I didn’t love her." Though the couple never married, they were together on and off for many years. He too was at the actress' bedside, and reportedly slept in a cot next to her hospital bed. He even proposed to her two weeks before her death.

“He never left her side, especially those last few months,” Farrah’s friend Alana Stewart said. “I think they would’ve married if she had made it because he asked her to marry him in the hospital and she said yes. But she took a turn for the worse. This was just a few weeks before the end, so perhaps it wasn’t realistic.”

Charlie's Angel's costar and longtime friend Jaclyn Smith added, "Ryan was the love of her life, and she, his. Whether they had a fight or were back together, it was always Ryan. The father of your child. Connected forever." When Farrah died on June 25, she left her son $4.5 million that went towards his health care and rehabilitation, according to Good House Keeping. When Redmond turned 33 he was charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking five men and robbing a convenience store.
