A father took to Reddit to explain the situation that involved his son marrying his daughter's school bully, leading to a chaotic family situation.
You'd think that almost everyone would go do their best to avoid family drama. However, an interesting story posted on Reddit seems to say otherwise. In the post, the original poster (OP), a father, took to Reddit to explain the situation that involved his son marrying his daughter's school bully, leading to a chaotic family situation, reported BoredPanda.
The OP explained that he has two children - Caleb, 29, and Anna, 24. All was well between the two siblings until Caleb fell in love with Anna's middle school bully. She had been a victim of bullying from the age of 12 and it went on until she was 18 years old. The bully was identified as Violet aka Caleb's soon-to-be bride.
Violet was a year older than Anna and she bullied 12-year-old Anna by verbally taunting her over her clothes, throwing insults at her, hiding her clothes in the locker room, and even pouring water on her. Violet's bullying never went out of hand physically and she didn't do it outside school, but it certainly left Anna disheartened.
The father took matters into his hands and tried talking to Violet's dad, but the intervention wasn't successful. The bullying lasted until her last year of college when Violet cheated with Anna's boyfriend, leaving the girl heartbroken.
After school, Anna hoped that she would never have to encounter Violet and her bullying but her future had a different plan. Caleb was offered a job at Violet's father's company. His family encouraged him to take the job even after knowing what Anna went through in the past. Eventually, Caleb started to work there. Initially, Caleb disliked Violet and it was the same for Violet as she knew he is the brother of the girl she bullied in school.
But as days went by, Caleb and Violet reportedly started to like each other after bickering back and forth all the time. Caleb didn't disclose this to his family since he knew the objection they would have. But after having dated for a while, he told his family about the relationship and that they were ready to get hitched.
Caleb's dad didn't take the news well, considering he didn't approve of the girl who had been a bully to his daughter. He said he "felt like [he’d] been punched in the gut and felt [he’d] failed as a father.”
Violet apologized to Anna for her past behavior and actions, and Anna, being the open-hearted one, let a few things go and decided to be cordial with her brother's fiancee. Meanwhile, Caleb didn't like that his family kept calling Violet out for bullying, as he knew that Violet's actions were caused by the trauma that she had had to face due to her unstable childhood.
Coming to the issue at hand, the OP wrote, "My grandmother had a vintage designer veil, very unique pattern, and I had previously said Caleb and Anna could both use it for their weddings if they wanted to. My wife with no prior discussion gave it to Violet, who loved it." Anna was saddened and felt hurt that her parents gave a family heirloom to her school bully even if she was her brother's to-be-wife.
The OP understood Anna's emotions and decided to take the veil back. "Violet didn’t have a reaction except for handing it to me. She doesn’t really speak to Anna or me,” the OP told Bored Panda. However, Caleb voiced his distaste over the decision and uninvited his dad from the wedding.
Adding to this, Anna's mother accused the OP of favoring Anna over Caleb's happiness. She even went ahead and threatened him, saying she would give the veil to Violet even if it means she has to stand against Anna and her husband. The dad turned to Reddit to know if he was in the wrong to have heeded his daughter's emotions. A lot of Reddit users gave him an unbiased opinion on the incident.
