Trigger Warning: This story mentions physical abuse that may be disturbing to readers.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had a heated argument in their private plane on September 14th, 2016, on their way back to LA from France, with their entire family present. According to an FBI report of the incident shared with both parties originally in 2017, Jolie accused Pitt of "ruining this family".

Pitt was allegedly violent toward Jolie on the plane, frightening her and their children in the process, she told the FBI, according to PEOPLE. Both parties reported being hurt, and she said the private jet had sustained $25,000 in damage. However, the investigation closed by November, and no charges were pursued.

The report, which has not been made public, was obtained by NBC News recently

According to the documents, Jolie told FBI officials that Pitt yelled at her, “grabbed her by her head,” shook her, “pushed her into the bathroom wall” and repeatedly punched the ceiling of the plane, added Independent

She also alleged that her ex-husband lunged at one of the children after they called him a “prick,” forcing her to hold him back “in a choke hold”. She then revealed that Pitt had several alcoholic beverages during the flight and “poured beer on [Jolie] and the blanket she was under.”

Then, when Jolie told Pitt she was taking their kids to a hotel so they could get some sleep, he reportedly yelled at her and said, “You’re not taking my f***ing kids.”

A recently sealed Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed against the FBI listed a “Jane Doe” as seeking the release of the FBI documents. The details of what is being requested are not known. In April, a lawyer representing Jane Doe stated that she was unable to comment on the client's name who had been "seeking such records for years, but has been stonewalled and has had to resort to legal action to get requested records," the attorney pointed out.

The plaintiff was identified as a woman in the initial filing, which detailed how "her then-husband, and their children—who were all minors at the time, were traveling via private aircraft," when "the husband allegedly physically and verbally assaulted plaintiff and the children, who have experienced lasting physical and mental trauma as a result of the assault."

The FBI report's description of the events and the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act (FOIPA) filing's summary of those events are similar.

However, sources familiar with the parties' continuing legal dispute questioned Jolie's motives for reportedly trying to have this document made public via FOIPA. “This report was given to both parties, almost six years ago. We both had it, in its entirety,” sources revealed.

“The final paragraph (...) is very clear and concise about the fact that all parties, all law enforcement agreed on the decision to not press charges. This was not like a close call. They did their investigation as they’re supposed to. And the decision was made with all parties in agreement.”

Pitt and Jolie were declared legally single by a judge back in 2019. They are parents to Maddox, 21, Pax, 18, Zahara, 17, Shiloh, 16, and 14-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. Their custody battle is ongoing.

A source close to Pitt at the time said, “He is emphatic that it did not reach the level of physical abuse, that no one was physically harmed. He did not hit his child in the face in any way. He did not do that; he is emphatic about that. He put his hands on him, yes, because the confrontation was spiraling out of control.”
