Married for 20 years and with four children, the couple has battled many a strife throughout their relationship but they are still deeply in love.
Destiny has a lot to do with whether we meet the right person at the right time. You could be completely in love with someone but they may not have any romantic feelings for you. There are so many variables when we meet someone. Are they single? Will they like you? There is no way of knowing since there are no guarantees here. A lot of things have to be in sync in two people's lives for them to find lasting love, just like ace soccer star David Beckham and his wife, singer Victoria Beckham.
Beckham saw Victoria on the television for the first time. Back then, she was part of the famous Spice Girls band. The moment he saw her he knew that he was attracted to her. Meanwhile, she had seen him for the first time in a soccer sticker book and had developed a crush on him. "My wife picked me out of a soccer sticker book. And I chose her off the telly. It felt straight away like we'd always been meant to be together," he said, according to the Sun.
Despite being attracted to each other, the first time they met, the two almost didn't talk to each other. "I was playing with Manchester United against Chelsea in London, and she came down with my manager. I was very shy so I introduced myself and left. I kind of was disappointed that I didn't talk to her a bit more, but then the next week she came back for another game," he said, according to News18. And, when she returned, it was the start of their love story.
They met at the Manchester United players' lounge after a charity football match in 1997, according to BBC. When Victoria saw David, she fell in love immediately, she had told British Vogue. The precise details are not clear to her since she was a little drunk on white wine. She approached him after noticing that he was sitting with his family, unlike his fellow players. Being close to her family, she realized how similar they were. The two spoke to each other for almost half an hour and David was quite shy during the conversation, Victoria revealed.
Eventually, she asked if he was going to ask her on a date. She gave him her number on a Manchester-to-London plane ticket, which he still treasures. It was destiny that brought them together and the couple is still married twenty years later.
Their first few dates were just like any other young couple. The first time they kissed was in a pub's parking lot near his parents' house in Epping. The couple was drunk and the soccer player has joked, "I made her fall in love by giving her a bit more wine." They often met at the car park in Manchester to make out in his car like teenagers, according to BBC.
The passion they had is still present in their relationship after being married for 20 years and having four kids. In 2018, they were engulfed by reports of a split but they dismissed the rumors.
“People have been making things up about our relationship for 20 years, so David and I are pretty used to ignoring the nonsense and just carrying on as normal,” the fashion designer told Vogue. “But these things have a wider effect on the people around us, and that’s unfair.”
The secret to their lasting love is that they have kept their "family unit" together, no matter what.
“We both realize that we are stronger together than we are as individuals,” she elaborated. “Would either of us be in the position that we are in now had we not met and been together all those years ago? It’s all about the family unit. We are much stronger - the six of us - than we would be if we were individuals. We respect that family bond and that is key.”
