In an old interview, she had opened up about her difficult childhood, her father's estrangement, and the strained relationship she had with her mother. On being asked if she was angry with him or tried to please him, she said, "Pleasing, pleasing, pleasing, everything to please."

She went on to say that after her father had apologized to her, and she decided to let her pain go and accepted him and their relationship. When asked did his father explained his decision to her. She said "He does. Though not at first. Like I said, he's not a good communicator. Maybe if my parents had talked more. There were signs, but also, knowing my father, he probably didn't say anything. But, as best he could, my dad explained and apologized, and it's enough. We've made up. There's still parts that are hard for me, but I'm an adult. I can't blame my parents anymore."

While she did confess that the most painful part of her life was where her father abandoned them, the actress never let it scar the image of her father to her. "One of the nicest men you'll ever meet. Unbelievably shy and funny," she said of him. One thing I remember about my parents when they were together, is how fun they were," she added.
