Amal Clooney Reveals How She Found the "Great Love I Always Hoped Existed" with Husband George Clooney

He floored her by being a gentleman in "every sense of the word and in a way that seems so rare these days and perhaps even outdated." Married since 2014, they welcomed their twins in 2017 and are happy being parents.

Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, married to one of the most famous actors in the world George Clooney, had not imagined that falling in love would be as natural as it turned out to be for her. She had also almost given up on getting married by the time she met him. She was 35 when they met and the idea of getting married in the absence of love was not something she was looking forward to.

“It felt like the most natural thing in the world,” she told Vogue US. “Before that experience, I always hoped there could be love that was overwhelming and didn’t require any weighing or decision-making.”

She talked about how they met at a group dinner in Lake Como in July 2013 and started corresponding through emails. He would write her notes “in the voice of his dog Einstein who claimed to be trapped in various places in need of legal rescue.” They finally met again in London a few months later and officially started dating, eventually getting married in 2014.

“It’s [love] the one thing in life that I think is the biggest determinant of happiness, and it’s the one thing you have the least control over. Are you going to meet this person? I was 35 when I met him. It wasn’t obvious that it was going to happen for me. And I wasn’t willing or excited about the idea of getting married or having a family in the absence of that," she told the magazine.

The couple is proud parents to twins who were born in 2017 and parenthood is something George Clooney loves speaking about. He is an involved parent and Amal says, "We’ve had some ‘Mamas’ and ‘Dadas. George was very careful to ensure that ‘Mama’ was the first word."

The reason why she was so attracted to him was that "he is a gentleman in every sense of the word and in a way that seems so rare these days and perhaps even outdated."

"He is the person who has my complete admiration and also the person whose smile makes me melt every time," she said at the AFI Life Achievement Gala, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "My love, what I have found with you is the great love I always hoped existed. And seeing you with our children, Ella and Alexander, is the greatest joy in my life," she said.

George is a happy father at 58 and gushes about his children often. He has embraced his role as a father after spending years alone. He too had given up on love before meeting her. Now, he sounds like a hopeless romantic, who will never recover from her spell. And, she is equally bewitched by the talented actor.

Recently he spoke to TODAY while promoting his latest show Catch-22, when he said, "They're not terrible twos. They're good kids. They're happy kids. They laugh a lot. They do pranks already. Put peanut butter on their shoes, so that it looks like poo-poo on their shoes and stuff, and they think that's funny…they really come out with the personalities that they're born with…they're just completely different personalities and they're fun and smart and I mean, they already can—you know, do all their ABCs in Italian and in English and I can't do that in English."
