They acknowledged that it never occurred to them because they always thought of one other as pals and because they were both in relationships any time they were working together.
George Clooney, 61, and Julia Roberts, 54, have been making our rom-coms what they are for the longest time, but a question has plagued the fans for a long time. Why is it that the longtime friends have never considered dating one another? The co-stars of the upcoming film “Ticket To Paradise” sat down in an interview with Access recently and talked about how excited they are for the film. In the interesting conversation, the two stars explained to fans why they never contemplated dating each other despite having known and collaborated for many years, per Hollywood Life. The actor and the actress acknowledged that it never occurred to them because they always thought of one other as pals and because they were both in relationships at the time they were working on a project together. “To not date each other? I don’t think we needed to state it,” said Julia when asked if she and George ever had a no-dating policy.
“It just seemed the right thing to do,” she added. “Julia was always in a relationship. Or, I was in a relationship, and we were fast friends right away. And so, it was nothing, it’s been nothing but fun for us. So, I don’t think that was ever really a thing,” George said. “Yeah, it was never like, ‘Hi.’” Julia then said playfully, to which George responded, “Hey, oooo, let’s take this to a different level.” They both couldn’t help but laugh after their comments, showing off their cute and friendly bond.
George and Julia's statements about dating each other come after they discussed being older parents. Earlier this week, the mother and father went on the "Today Show" to promote their movie. George, the father of 5-year-old twins Ella and Alexander, quipped that he will be relieved to be "out of it" when his daughter is old enough to date. “I kind of like the idea of being sort of out of it, when my daughter starts to date,” he said.
In the interview with Today, George joked about what it might possibly be like when his daughter introduces him to a love interest of hers. He said, “‘Papa, I want you to meet … he’s a drummer in a band,’” adding, “‘What? I like toast,’” he added, alluding to what his response might sound like.
Julia added that she thinks the kids chose them to be shepherds in their life's decision-making. “The truth is … no matter how old we are — George being the oldest of us — they have chosen us in this moment to be their stewards and their shepherds in this life experience,” she explained. “I met [husband Danny Moder] when I was ready,” she went on to tell George. “You met [wife Amal Clooney] when you were ready. And then we call these children into our lives when we’re ready to best partner with them.”
