Friends had seen the couple fight even in public and they reportedly had a heated argument right before their deaths.
Trigger warning: contains graphic details of violence that may be distressing to some.
A woman in Brazil died a tragic death after her husband went into a fit of rage over the photos she shared on social media. After shooting his wife to death, the husband then pulled the trigger on himself and took his own life while their 6-year-old daughter was in the house.
The mother, Eliane Ferreira Siolin, 35, was a social media influencer in Brazil with more than 58,000 users following the posts and short videos she posted on TikTok. Though she had a notable fan base, she often found herself having fights with her husband, Alejandro Antonio Aguilera Cantallupi, over the content she shared, according to The Sun.
"Close friends said they fought a lot, even in public," said police spokesperson Analu Ferraz.
The 41-year-old husband reportedly found her pictures too risqué and was fighting about it with Eliane at a family barbecue right before their deaths on January 24, 2021. As they got into a heated argument, Alejandro grabbed his gun and shot his wife over and over while their 6-year-old daughter saw the horror unfold right before her eyes, as reported by the Daily Mail.
After inflicting Eliane's body with multiple gunshot wounds, Alejandro shot himself in the head and collapsed near his wife.
When the police arrived, they found the bodies of Eliane and Alejandro lying on the porch behind their rural residence in Ponta Pora in the Brazilian district of Nova Itamarati. The police seized a gun near the bodies and found a magazine along with several bullets. Investigators also found that Eliane's body was punctured with 14 bullets, as reported by New York Post.
While the investigation continues, the couple's 6-year-old daughter who witnessed the tragic event has been taken in by relatives.
Another incident that led to the death of a social media influencer was reported in 2019. The body of an Instagrammer and qualified doctor, Ekaterina Karaglanova, 24, was found by her parents and landlord inside a suitcase lying in her apartment building's hallway.
Ekaterina, who also went by the name Katya, was known for sharing photos of herself online and had more than 85,000 Instagram users following her on the platform.
Following the discovery of Ekaterina's body in Moscow, Russia, a man named Maxim Gareyev, who was 33 years old at the time, confessed to the murder and revealed that he was in an intimate relationship with the woman, as reported by BBC.
Before being stabbed to death, Ekaterina "repeatedly insulted and humiliated" Maxim and he couldn't tolerate it, according to his account.
"She told me that I was ugly and that even plastic [surgery] would not help me," he said. "...I could not stand it."
Maxim reportedly told investigators that he would give her money whenever they met. As he gave his confession, Maxim claimed that during their last meeting, she told him it would take him another year to make enough money for their next meeting.
When Ekaterina's parents eventually saw that she was not picking up her phone, they raised the alarm and arrived at her apartment building to found her remains in a shocking manner.
"I saw my daughter lying in a suitcase. The big red suitcase was in the middle of the room... I started to scream," her mother, a cardiologist named Dr. Olga Semochkina, said in court, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
Maxim, who received a sentence of nine years for the social media influencer's murder, was quoted saying about his actions, "I want to apologise to Katya's parents. I regret a lot. I'm very ashamed of myself."
