Goldie Hawn called her longtime partner the "wacky man" in her life in the sweet tribute.
Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson are honoring a special man in their life on his 72nd birthday. Goldie Hawn called her longtime partner Kurt Russell the "wacky man" in her life in her birthday tribute to him while Hudson referred to him affectionately as "Pa."
"Happy birthday to the wacky man in my life! I love you baby ❤️," Hawn, 77, wrote in an Instagram post on Friday alongside a photo of the pair together. Russell and Hawn have been together since 1983 and have never felt the need to get married. The couple began dating 40 years ago on the set of 1983's Swing Shift and have been together since proving that long-lasting love needs no labels.
Speaking to Variety earlier this month they explained why they haven't prioritized tying the knot. "We constantly got asked, 'When are you going to get married? Why aren't you married?' Russell, 71, remembered a time when they were dating in the late '80s. "And we were like, 'Why does anybody care about that?' " It seemed the whole world was more concerned than their family or the couple themselves. "We'd asked our kids if they cared about it. They didn't. We didn't," he explained.
As for the 76-year-old Oscar winner, she is fond of the fact that Russell has a playful side to him and she also loves the way he laughs. She told PEOPLE in 2020 that there's no big secret to their lasting love. "You've just got to want to be together," Hawn said at the time. "I don't think there's any way other than do it." The Overboard actress also admitted that it's not always easy and sometimes you have to give things up "but the joy and the excitement of being together and touching the toes of somebody at night is really a nice feeling."
"For people like us, the marriage certificate wasn’t going to create anything that otherwise we wouldn’t have," added Russell. "I don’t know. 40 years isn’t enough to finally say, 'Well I guess...' "
The pair also have four kids together. There's Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, from Goldie's previous marriage to Bill Hudson. There's also Boston Russell, from Kurt's previous marriage to Season Hubley. The two welcomed their own son, Wyatt Russell, in July 1986. The duo loves being grandparents to seven kids.
43-year-old Hudson also shared a sweet birthday tribute to her stepdad celebrating his big day. "Always a double fun day in our family! St Patrick's day and Pa's birthday!" the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actress wrote alongside a video where Russell's family sings "Happy Birthday" to him. "Love this man so much! How about some birthday love for Kurt! 🍀🎉🎂 Happy Birthday Pa! 💚."
