Most people become wary of starting a new relationship after a divorce, especially if their partner betrayed them in some way. When they feel attracted to someone again, they are likely to take their time getting to know their new partner before committing for the long haul. Blake Shelton, 44, and Gwen Stefani, 51, were both going through rough patches in their relationships when they met each other. They divorced their cheating partners in mid-July of 2015 and became confidantes to each other.

The couple, who met on The Voice, started dating each other in November 2015 and have been taking it slow until now. Almost five years after they met, the couple finally decided to put a ring on it. Shelton asked his girlfriend to marry him and she said yes!

Stefani shared the happy news through a photo on Instagram. "@blakeshelton yes please! 💍🙏🏻 gx" wrote the Hollaback Girl singer. Meanwhile, the country singer shared the same photo where they share a kiss and Stefani is holding up her ring for the world to see. He wrote, "Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020... And the rest of my life.. I love you. I heard a YES!"

Stefani was previously married to musician Gavin Rossdale. She said in July 2016 that when her now-fiance revealed his split from Miranda Lambert to The Voice team in July 2015, she "went white," as quoted by People.

"I was in shock because I felt like he was exposing me. I just couldn’t even wrap my head around it," Stefani admitted of the moment Shelton broke the news. "I didn’t want anyone to know what was going on with me… I had this huge weight on me and nobody but my parents and obviously everybody involved knew," she said.

She started talking to Shelton about her own marriage, which was ending then. "It was during that time, he came up to my chair… I never saw him look so upset. So then I was like, 'I gotta talk to you,'" she said. The Rich Girl singer added it was "unbelievable that God would put us in a position to have each other at that moment, in the same exact moment." It was like the universe just wanted them to be together then. She said she "wasn’t trying to start a relationship" when she and Shelton got together.

They were first seen together during the Halloween weekend in 2015 and didn't reveal their relationship status to anyone. "Blake and Gwen have begun dating. They’ve been supporting each other through a difficult time and they’re really happy together. Everyone is thrilled because they’re both incredibly nice people," a source told People.

Since then, Shelton also became close to the What You Waiting For? singer's three sons. He has been isolating with Stefani and her boys in Oklahoma, which is where he proposed to her.

The 44-year-old said that he has been helping Stefani raise her three sons, 14-year-old Kingston, 11-year-old Zuma, and 6-year-old Apollo, whom she shared with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale.

On Father's Day, Stefani thanked her long-time boyfriend for helping her with her children. Talking to Today, Shelton said, "That’s a scary moment for me because it’s one thing for me to be with the kids all the time and be their buddy but then you do have to consider after a while, that they're starting to listen to things that you say, and there’s a lot of responsibility that comes with that, which is new to me."

He also credited his fiancee for making him a better person. "I don't want to remember what I was like before Gwen, actually. I'm a little bit of jerk to you still," he said, speaking to fellow Voice coach Kelly Clarkson, according to USA Today. "But I was a jerk to everybody… Look how nice I am now!"
