The grandmother was shot by one of the intruders. She is recovering in the hospital.
Someone once said, “We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.” A 12-year-old boy proved the quote right by showing everyone that he's a hero today after he saved his grandmother's life.
According to CNN, a young boy from North Carolina rescued his 73-year-old grandmother Linda Ellis after two masked intruders broke into her house around 1:00 am on February 13, 2021. When he saw his grandma in danger, he did something that no one expected. He shot them.

According to a statement released by the Goldsboro Police Department on their Facebook page, the intruders entered the house and demanded money from Linda. When she denied it, they shot the elderly woman. Watching his grandma wounded, the young boy shot at the two intruders in self-defense following which they fled.
The incident came to light after the authorities responded to a call of a shooting at William Street. The officers who reached the crime scene discovered a wounded Linda with a gunshot on her leg. "A 12-year-old juvenile occupant of the residence shot at the suspects with a firearm in self-defense, causing them to flee the area," said authorities, according to WRAL.

A short while later they found one of the suspects, 19-year-old Khalil Herring, at an intersection nearby with a gunshot wound. Both Linda and Khalil were rushed to Wayne UNC Health Care hospital for treatment where the 19-year-old succumbed to his injuries, according to ABC7. The authorities told CNN, "Preliminary evidence suggest(s) Khalil Herring was one of the two masked intruders and was shot during the robbery." They added that charges against the 12-year-old "are not anticipated."
Randolph Bunn, who is the great-uncle of the brave boy and Linda's son, gave more details about the whole incident. "They came in the house, I open the door, I open it, and they came in there... One guy had a gun. They just put me down on the ground." The elderly woman was in the kitchen when the intruders confronted her. "I don't know why they shot her," he added.
Supporting the 12-year-old, the mother said, "It was just natural instinct." Echoing the boy's mother, Randolph added that the intruder "just shot his grandma." If the young boy had not retaliated, "He would have shot him too, he would've shot me too. He would've killed us all."
The shocking incident has troubled everyone in the community along with the family members. Linda's great-niece, Chiquita Coley said, "Why would somebody come into her house and do this? It's got to stop. I don't know what they're thinking around here in Goldsboro, but it's got to stop." Randolph revealed that the grandmother will likely be held in the hospital for a few days.
