“I was having a career and not having the right relationship until ... four years ago,” the actress confessed.
People questioned Hilary Swank's decision to wait so long to create a family when she revealed to the public that she was 48 years old and expecting twins. Swank admitted in a video interview with Extra that prior to this time, her life simply wasn't in the proper place. Swank had to be in the right place at the right time with the right person in order to proceed.“I was having a career and not having the right relationship until … four years ago, and all the elements needed to come together and be right,” said the “Alaska Daily” star. “It’s just something I thought about even as a young girl,” she continued. “It’s something that was on my mind, so it’s nice to be here and just be pregnant.” Swank, who revealed she is expecting earlier this month, continued to speak with the publication, saying that she is "feeling better" after experiencing "bouts of morning sickness." The Oscar winner explained, “My friends tell me when you have double [on the way], it doubles the hormones, doubles the sickness, doubles the everything.”
The announcement of Hilary's pregnancy comes four years after the couple's August 2018 wedding. In 2016, the "Fatale" actress and the businessman became engaged. She previously wed the actor Chad Lowe in 1997 and they divorced in 2006. Hilary told People about her future parenting plans while still married to Lowe. “I definitely would like kids someday,” she said in the 2006 interview. “That’s definitely something that I’ve always thought about as a very, very young girl.” The Alaska Daily star revealed earlier this month on The Drew Barrymore Show that she and her husband, Philip Schneider, were expecting twins. Swank and Schneider tied the knot in 2018. According to Vogue, the 44-year-old actress married fiancé entrepreneur Philip Schneider in a "timeless" wedding at the Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel, Calif. “It’s a stunning private community surrounded by 20,000 acres of conservancy and an intimate redwood grove populated with trees that are over 800 years old,” Swank told the outlet of the venue. For the special day, the “Million Dollar Baby” star wore an Elie Saab Couture dress.
“I wanted something romantic that felt as timeless as the redwood grove where we were to be married, and he delivered—designing something that far surpassed my greatest expectations,” Swank gushed. “It was everything I imagined and more.”
Swank's father was one of the factors that contributed to her decision not to have children. In 2020, the P.S. I Love You star told Health Magazine that she took a few years off to assist him to recuperate from a lung transplant. "It was supposed to be a year because it takes a year to see if an organ transplant takes. A lung transplant is the most difficult of all, as it’s an incredibly delicate organ," said Swank. He sadly passed away in October 2021.
Swank acknowledged that her child is due in April, which she described as a "wonderful" coincidence.“My dad, he was one of my favorite people in the world,” the “Million Dollar Baby” star gushed of Stephen Swank, who died in October 2021. “It is kind of this tribute of life with them being born on this birthday. … It’s all aligning."
