Hugh Jackman and his wife have an age gap of 13 years but they had a whirlwind romance that's still going strong.
As much as Hollywood likes to make movies about love, it often disappoints because in reality, celebrities are notorious for bad marriages. However, there are some couples whose love has stood the test of time. They have long-lasting marriages and they keep cherishing the love that they have. One of the few couples who have been together for decades is Hugh Jackman, 52, and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, 65.
Not only are they exemplary because of their long-term relationship but also because they are one of the few couples where the man is younger. Jackman and his wife have an age gap of 13 years. The couple, who welcomed two children together, celebrated their 25th anniversary on April 11, 2021.
The 52-year-old actor honored his wife through a social media post recently. He shared photos from their wedding in 1996 along with it. "Being married to you Deb is as natural as breathing. From nearly the moment we met ... I knew our destiny was to be together. In our 25 years - our love has only grown deeper. The fun, excitement and adventure more exhilarating; the learning even greater. I’m forever grateful to share our love, our life - and, our family together. We’ve only just begun. Deb, I love you with all my heart!" wrote Jackman.
This isn't the first time the actor has shared a photo of their wedding day. On Valentine's Day, he shared a photo that showed how fun they were as a couple. Perhaps, that's the key to their long-lasting marriage. "Deb. You are, and always will be, the great love of my life. I love you to the moon and back," he wrote back then.
The Australian couple met in 1995 on the set of the Australian TV series Corelli. Their love story proves that even whirlwind romances can last when people have found the perfect person. Jackman proposed to her in only four months since they met and they married a year after meeting. They went on to adopt two children, Oscar Maximilian, 20, and Ava Eliot, 15, as per Today.
Jackman and his wife's story proves that the length of time one knows their romantic partner has got nothing to do with love. He revealed in November 2018 that he knew immediately after meeting Furness that he was going to spend his life with her. "I knew two weeks into meeting Deb that we were going to be together for the rest of our lives," he explained. "In the end, what do you want from your life partner?” he added. "You want to be fully seen and you want to be able to fully see them for exactly who (they) really are. And Deb and I had that from the beginning," he added.
He always ensures that he celebrates her on special occasions. On her birthday in November 2020, he wrote, "Happy birthday to my incredible wife. Your courage, wit, open heartedness, loyalty, creativity, joie de vivre, cheekiness and spontaneity inspire me every day. I love you so much more than any caption can convey."
The Les Miserables actor is as devoted as a dad as he is a husband. He dotes on his kids and has been a loving parent right from the start. In 2013, he told Good Housekeeping about his middle school-going kids. "Ava's really social. She's a mini Deb—she's up for anything," Jackman said. "And if there are three things to do in the afternoon, she'll make it five," he added. His son, he says, is an idealist.
Throughout their marriage, he's made sure to stick to the rule of not being apart from his family for more than two weeks. He flies home, even if it's only for 36 hours. "When I met [my wife] she'd already done about 20 movies," he said, adding that she understood what distance can do to a relationship. "She said, 'It's not that I think you're going to go off with a costar, or vice versa. But people get used to living apart. You get used to handling a problem yourself,'" said the Wolverine actor.
Even after all these years, they are completely in love and the actor keeps giving credit where it's due.
"Deb has completely changed who I am. I honestly think Deb brings out the best in me and I hope I do the same for her. We love spending time together. We are very good mates and we laugh a lot," he was quoted as saying by Now to Love.
