Derek, who became famous after the film '10', has been private about her personal life and unconventional relationship.
When you ask long-term couples what makes them still work after spending several years together, everyone will probably have a different answer, because every couple is different. But, there is one Hollywood couple whose answer might make you think that this is what romance is made of.
The legendary Bo Derek and John Corbett have been going steady since 2002 and they mostly fly under the radar even though they fly around the world a lot. The unconventional couple has been keeping things interesting by holidaying in different places for date nights.
"My gosh, we don’t have typical," Derek of 10 fame told Us magazine. "We’re always traveling so our date nights are usually where we meet up someplace else." It could also mean meeting up with the Sex and the City actor in London when he was shooting there. "It’s like every night’s a date night when you’re on vacation and in a foreign city, and London was beautiful," the beautiful sexagenarian said. She also said that home is actually where they vacation because they travel so much. "That’s where the romance is," she told CloserWeekly.
For a couple with a passion for the atypical, their first meeting had been quite normal. They had been set up on a blind date by agent Norby Walters, according to Today.com. "I said, 'I'm not dating anyone,' and he said, 'I'll get you a date, Corbett!' And he set me up with Bo," Corbett revealed. The Big Fat Greek Wedding star confessed that he was "very intimidated."
Meanwhile, Derek, who had been single since her husband John Derek passed away in 1998, was attracted to 4 years-younger Corbett instantly. She told The Insider that it was love at first sight. "I kept saying to my friends, 'I'll wait until all the sparks and all that get going.' And it finally happened."
There has been no going back on their mutual attraction and they have kept the sparks alive for almost two decades. The iconic sex symbol from the 80s said the reason they are together is that they take their relationship "day to day," she said. "I understand when he goes off on location, he understands when I travel," she said. "We have all our independence and freedom. We just enjoy spending our time together."
To this, the To All The Boys I Have Loved Before actor said in 2018, "We enjoy each other’s company; we make each other laugh. After 15 years we still hold hands; we still have barbecues with friends a couple times a week. [And Bo] still laughs at all my jokes even though she’s heard them a million times. We just enjoy each other. I’m sad when she’s not around."
The Sharknado actress told Fox News that while they may never get married, they almost did get married once. "We were on a funky, horrible boat in the Amazon, and I thought it might be fun to be able to later tell you… that we got married on a funky little boat in the Amazon, that the captain married us," she said. "Then we decided, no that was just too weird."
When asked what keeps them from tying the knot, the actress said, "We don't have children. There isn't that tradition to follow. Marriage, I don't know. It feels funny. It's not necessary for us. We're not proving our love, we're not starting a new generation together of families coming together."
