The actors are set to play a father-son duo once again for Disney's animated film.
An interviewer has recently managed to shock Jake Gyllenhaal when they informed him that it won’t be Dennis Quaid’s first time playing Gyllenhaal’s father in Stranger World. 41-year-old Gyllenhaal is playing Quaid’s son once again after starring together in the 2004 apocalyptic movie The Day After Tomorrow but it seems that the Nightcrawler actor has completely forgotten about it. According to the Independent, Gyllenhaal and Quaid sat down for an interview with a reporter from Yahoo who started the session by telling Quaid that “he and Jake obviously played father and son in The Day After Tomorrow.” The 68-year-old actor can be seen nodding in acknowledgment and flashing a faint smile as Jake exclaims: “We did? Oh oh, oh! Whoah! That’s the guy who played my dad.”
“It’s the first time we’ve been in the same room together. That’s me,” Quaid joked. “Wow, that’s cool. You know we’ve been doing a lot of interviews, and you just blew my mind,” Gyllenhaal told the reporter.
Many of the netizens believe that Jake might have been joking and one can’t obviously forget a person they filmed with not so long ago. One of the comments on Yahoo’s Youtube video read: “He’s clearly joking.” Another comment followed up with an argument saying, “He wasn’t joking. He’s done a lot of movies and they never physically had a scene together in the movie I think.”

Fans can never know if Gyllenhaal is pulling a prank or if he actually forgot about filming with Quaid because their characters in the 2004 film spent most of their time separated by natural disasters. 18 years ago in The Day After Tomorrow, both the actors mostly shot in different locations. Quaid played Jack Hall, an NOAA paleoclimatologist who sets out to rescue his son Sam, played by Jake, stranded in New York City as unnaturally rapid climate changes threaten to wipe off mankind. For their recent team-up on Disney’s animated film Stranger World, the actors are once again in separate recording booths so it’s safe to assume that they didn’t have enough interactions.

According to Variety, Gyllenhaal will be voicing a character called Searcher, and Quaid voices Jaeger Clade. They are two adventurers who find themselves on the surreal planet of Avalonia. The movie is directed by Don Hall and has received positive criticism so far with Variety film critic Peter Debruge calling it “a Jules Verne-worthy step into fresh territory, both creatively and in terms of character.”
