James Cameron's ex-wife Linda Hamilton revealed that their marriage was "terrible on every level." She never married again.

Not everyone knows how to respect independent women. They may be attracted to them but eventually feel threatened by women who have self-respect and refuse to take commands from anyone else.
Director James Cameron, who has found success with movies like Titanic, Avatar, Terminator, and more, has been married five times. He values independent women but only if they are fictional. He is used to writing strong female characters in his movies, like Sarah Connor, but doesn't know how to live with one who doesn't really need him. Cameron, who was also married to actress Linda Hamilton of the Terminator fame, has been criticized by her.
Hamilton, who was his fourth wife and was married to him between 1997 and 1999, revealed that their marriage was "terrible on every level." "I wasn't ready, he wasn't ready. He was terribly insecure that I was going to ruin it for him somehow, which didn't make sense since I am an actress in my own right and had been in front of the camera. It was dreadful," she was quoted as saying by Hello Magazine. They have a daughter, Josephine, together. Cameron also cheated on Hamilton with future wife Amis.
The five women Cameron has been married to are: Sharon Williams for 12 years, Gale Anne Hurd, producer of The Terminator, director Kathryn Bigelow, actress Hamilton, and Suzy Amis, who he fell for while he was making Titanic. Amis played the role of Rose's granddaughter in the film. Bigelow beat her ex-husband at the 82nd Academy Awards by winning the best director award for her film The Hurt Locker. Cameron was a contender for Avatar the same year, according to the Daily Mail.
"Being attracted to strong independent women has the downside that they’re strong independent women – they inherently don’t need you!" he laughed, as he told The Guardian's female reporter. "Fortunately, I’m married now to a strong independent woman who does believe she needs me," he added. However, Hamilton said that this was not the reason they broke up. "The very first night [I moved in with him], I realized I made a mistake," she said in 2009. "He was the controlling director. The person I’d seen on set came back to life – we’re in his environment, and I didn’t have much of a say-so."
Hamilton and Cameron started seeing each other right after Terminator 2, and they were together for several years until he cheated on her. The True Lies actress never remarried after her divorce from him. When asked if he was seeing her during the shooting of Terminator 2, he said, "Oh no, obviously not. We got involved right after, but, you know, [dating an actor during filming] is a rule I will never break – well, I’m happily married now and it’s going to be for the rest of my life. But that’s a rule you can’t break as a director. As a matter of fact, Suzy and I, we were very attracted to each other when we first met, but we – we …" he said, adding, "I think about 10 seconds after we were done filming [the movie Titanic], well, you know..."
The director, who is known as the first person to reach the bottom of the Mariana Trench — the deepest part of the ocean — all alone, is also known to have temper problems, which he claims are better now. He believes that deep-sea diving has given him perspective. "I’ve done eight deep-ocean expeditions and, at the end of the day there is no big movie, there is no red carpet. There’s just this little group of people who know how hard it is, and you’re all bonded around that. So I realized that it’s good to have a good movie at the end of a job, but it’s not the most important thing. The working environment is very important," he said.
He married Amis in 2000 and they have been together for 20 years. They have three children together and the Cameron family spends its time between New Zealand and Malibu. "I’m not good at relaxing, that’s true. My idea of a vacation is to take the whole family to Tahiti and spend the week doing underwater photography with underwater vehicles," he said.
Amis said that the success of their relationship is based on "listening. And having interests together,” according to Closer Weekly.
